Diaper Rash And the Way I Handled It

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By O Quinn

I thought I was the perfect mother. Changing diapers after every nap and before every feeding and often inbetween. Making sure to clean thoroughly with wonderfully scented baby wipes each time. The babys bottom was beautfiul. Notice I used the past tense. And this was baby number six! As foster parents we had cared for our share of baby bottoms. Then it hit. Diaper rash. It came so quickly. And I had no idea how to cope.

I received advice from every corner of the globe. And the funny thing is even though everyone had their own idea, they were all good and they all worked. Hmmmm....

My mom praised browned flour.

My friend swore by Eucerine.

My aunt said only A & D worked for her babies.

But yet another foster mom swore by Butt Paste!

And to top it off they were handing out samples of yet another diaper rash cream at my local store!

What did I do?

After panicking and calling the advice nurse I analyzed the situation and applied my attack plan.

The rash comes about because tender baby skin is being exposed to irritants. Sometimes its an allergic reaction to a new food or the wipes themselves. Sometimes the brand of diaper is the culprit. Many reasons can bring on diaper rash and many solutions can clear it up.

Now I keep a variety of things on hand and here is my personal attack plan for hands on healing.

1. Mix up solution of distilled water, 2-3 drops of *tea tree oil and a dash of castille soap. Soak papertowels in this for diaper wipes.

2. Change baby diaper very often and try to give a good airing if time permits.

3. Slather on zinc diaper ointment and then whatever heavy duty moisturizer I have on hand (vaseline, Eucerine) over this. If it was bedtime add a diaper liner for good measure.

Some other tips I use:

Keep Clotrimazole on hand for yeast rashes.

Keep a handy chart of the different types of diaper rashes

Call the doctor is improvement isnt seen in 24 hours.

With these methods I dont fear the dreaded diaper rash any more.

*(Tea Tree Oil, a natural antiseptic, germicide, antibacterial, fungicide that while safe to apply neat or directly to the skin, should be heavily diluted before using on baby skin)

Disposable Diaper Bags

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

When you have a baby, no matter where you travel or where you go, you always need to have a diaper bag in tow. Diaper bags are a very convenient way to stores all the essentials that baby needs to keep them well fed, well clothed and dry. Good bags are equipped with compartments for extra clothes, bottles, baby food, diapers, creams, and of course sanitary wipes.

One very important item that many parents forget about is disposable diaper bags. No matter where you are - inside or outside of your home - when you change baby's diaper, it is always a good idea to have an extra disposable diaper bag to throw the diaper in before disposing of it in a trash can. There is nothing worse in a public restroom than the smell of a diaper that has been tossed into a can without some sort of wrap. When you're at home, you either throws the dirty diapers in a diaper pail or directly into a contained trashcan. You know what it's like when a diaper has been sitting to long. The odor is not pretty, and you or your husband takes the trash outside. The same applies when you are out and about with baby. If you don't use disposable diaper bags, you're really not taking into consideration anyone else who might be in the same room where the baby is being changed, or who might be in the room hours later.

Disposable diaper bags should be a must in every mother?s diaper bag. Although they are gaining in popularity, there still needs to be a major marketing campaign to let parents know that disposing of a soiled diaper should include wrapping it in a disposable diaper bag, before throwing it away. Those parents, who do use them, know that you can purchase them at a very low cost in bulks of 75 to 100. You can also buy scented or unscented and use them for other things like garbage and dog liter.

Adult Diapers and Plastic Pants

Adult diapers are used by many individuals who suffer form incontinence and other aliments, which require them to urinate frequently. However, sometimes as adults if it becomes obvious that a person is wearing a diaper, it can be embarrassing and quite awkward for the person to move around in public areas. Therefore, a recent development that has gained quick response and momentum is the concept of plastic pants. They are being used a lot by diaper users these days.

Plastic pants are available these days in almost all of the places where diapers are available and they come in different styles, colors, patterns and types. The basic function of the pant is to hold the diaper firmly in place so that there is no scope for displacement and also, so that it isn't noticeable. A lot of diaper users have testified to the fact that diapers often shift and this result in stains on the person's clothing especially the pants. Removing these stains can be wearisome tasks and this is where plastic pants come into the picture. Plastic pants can be washed and reused as many times as required. They show no signs of blemishes and they do not retain any odor. They also look trendy and camouflage the fact that the person is wearing a diaper inside.

Plastic pants are available in different styles for men and women. They are available in different waist sizes to suit the needs of the customer. They also come in a range of styles like short pants, bell-bottoms, loose pants, slacks, casual wear, formal wear, etc. Many users have testified that these plastic pants are extremely comfortable and savvy.

The Intelligent Diaper

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Tim Knox

I believe it was Frank Zappa who said, "Necessity is the mother of invention," which means that if there is a public need for something, sooner or later, someone will invent it; and then Microsoft will steal the idea, produce a cheaper, far inferior knock-off of the original that the ignorant masses will scarf up like the last cherry cheesecake at a Weight Watcher's convention!

The genius of invention and the idiocy of consumption; just two more things that make our merry world go round.

Think about it. How far would we have evolved as a species had it not been for the truly inventive minds of our age? One can only imagine how utterly backward the world would be if not for those brave men and women who invent and market the neverending stream of worthless crap, I mean, "products" that we consumers willingly -- even gladly -- throw away our hard-earned money on. Life would be pretty difficult without that SoloFlex sitting in the corner of your bedroom, wouldn't it? Where else would you hang your dirty clothes?

How hard our lives would be without things like the Pocket Fisherman, the Flowbee, the Wonder Mop, the Bamboo Steamer, and of course, the Clapper. How would we have ever sliced through old tin cans and overripe tomatoes if not for the Ginsu Knife? How many of us would have the washboard abs and buns of steel that we have today if not for those amazing products that made it so incredibly easy for us to get them? And finally, how many of our young people would have chosen the wrong path in life had it not been for the chance at self-expression offered to them by Mr. Microphone?

Many of this country's great minds are meeting in Monroeville, Pennsylvania this week to show off their latest brainstorm at the annual New Product Exposition. Highlights of this year's show include a fireproof blanket (for people who smoke in bed, I suppose), a plastic rack designed to drain the last dregs of ketchup from the bottle (for those times when turning the bottle upside down just isn't enough), and a motion-activated nightlight you install in a dresser drawer to help you find your socks in the dark. I think the last one is from the same genius who tried to market glow-in-the-dark toilet paper a few years back. Unfortunately, that idea went down the toilet when it was discovered that the fluorescent dye that made the paper glow in the dark also had the same affect on the user's behind.

The invention that caught my attention this year is the so-called "Intelligent Diaper." This little ditty looks and works just like a normal diaper, except that it beeps and flashes when it becomes, shall we say, full. The Intelligent Diaper is one product that probably won't be ripped off by Microsoft (although the "full" part certainly meets criteria), but that's about the only thing it has going for it. Take it from someone who has bought enough infomercial junk to stock a small Wal-Mart, the Intelligent Diaper will go the way of glow-in-the-dark toilet paper. Granted, there's little danger of ending up with a neon pink bottom here, but there are just some things that even the dumbest consumer won't spend his disposable income on. The Intelligent Diaper is such an item.

If you're already a parent, you know what I'm going to say next. If you're about to become a parent for the first time or are thinking about becoming one, let me give you a little advice: if you are so out of touch with reality, so completely sensory-deficient that you need bells and whistles to tell you when your cute, cuddly, little bundle of joy has made a fifteen pound present for you in his diaper, you have no business being a parent. You're just too stupid.

New Mommy: "Dear, do you smell something?"

New Daddy: "What an awful aroma! Have they opened a paper mill in our neighborhood?"

Mommy: "No, I don't think so. You're not boiling your gym socks again, are you?"

Daddy: "No, of course not! And what is that infernal beeping sound I hear?"

Mommy: "I don't know... wait... look at that flashing light on Molly's diaper."

Daddy: You're right, dear. That smell is coming from the baby!"

Mommy: "What a relief! Thank goodness for the Intelligent Diaper!"

Again, if you need anything other than your own nose to tell you that your baby's diaper has reached capacity, you are not equipped to be a parent. Try raising goldfish or guppies instead. Just remember, when they float upside down, they're dead. And if that's too much for you to remember, I suggest you invest in the Intelligent Aquarium, on sale now at a Wal-Mart near you.

But if you're still intent on having children in spite of my warning and feel that you need an external device to let you know when your baby has, as we say at my house, "made a present for daddy," why don't you just do what the coal miners did in the old days and hang a canary cage in the little stinker's bedroom. When the canary dies, you know it's time to change a diaper. Nothing could be simpler.

As the proud papa of a two-year-old who is resisting potty training like a cat resists water, I can tell you from first-hand experience that the diaper is a product that sorely needs updating, but the Intelligent Diaper just doesn't go far enough. Here's my suggest (Bill Gates, you listening): Microsoft should "borrow" the Intelligent Diaper concept and combine it with aerospace technology to make a better, more efficient diaper product.

When the Microsoft Intelligent Diaper needs changing, the Windows start-up chime sounds, a series of lights flash across the seat of the diaper to form the outline of Bill Gates' face and an oxygen mask falls from the ceiling.

The ad campaign could be: "Microsoft, for wherever you have to go today!"

Now that's what I call a real intelligent diaper.

Free Diapers and Coupons - Pampers Lead The Way

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Zhang Xiao Hong

Having a new baby or young child can be a very expensive time for parents, however there are a number of ways that you can cut the costs by applying for free samples and coupons from some of the major suppliers of baby and toddler products. One such giant among these companies is Pampers.

Pampers have been one of the leading nappy sellers since disposable nappies came on the market.. With annual sales of US$ 6 billion it is recognized today as the worlds number one selling diaper brand

The disposable diaper was invented by Marion Donovan in 1950 and Pampers is but one brand of disposable diaper (or disposable nappy as known in the UK) marketed by Procter & Gamble worldwide Pampers the company was started by an American chemical engineer Victor Mills while he was working for Procter & Gamble Co. He thought it was a mess to use cloth diapers and it occurred to him that the pulp mill owned by Procter and Gamble might produce a clean, absorbent paper that just might work for a disposable diaper. P&G tested his yet unnamed disposable diaper in Rochester, New York in 1959 and, after discarding early names such as Tads, Solos and Larks, came up with the Pampers brand.

Pampers TimeLine

In 1966, Pampers launched a new C-fold design and by 1969 started a "third size". In 1984 Pampers changed their diapers to an hourglass shape; a feature that was first introduced on Luvs in 1976, and had evolved into an industry standard. In 1987 Pampers and Huggies both introduced new frontal tape systems which allow multiple repositioning of the lateral tape without tearing the diaper. In the 1990s Pampers introduced Ultra Dry Thins diapers that pulled moisture into the core, then sprang back to absorb even more. In 1996 Pampers Premium was introduced and was hailed as a diaper with breathable side panels. The '90s also saw the introduction of gender specific diapers in the Pampers brand and also the return to unisex diapers towards the end of the decade. In 1993 Pampers first attempt at training pants was introduced these were simply known as Pampers Trainers and would be a short lived product.

Pampers Baby Wipes

Apart from diapers Pampers also do a range of baby wipes such as Pampers Sensitive Wipes with moisture seal packaging, these wipes have unbeatable moisture retention, from the first to the last wipe and clinically tested and proven to be free of any tendency to irritate the sensitive skin of a newborn baby, including those with nappy rash. They have been awarded Baby Product of the Year 2007 as voted by 10,000 independent consumers.

Marketing and Promotions

Pampers and other major disposable diaper manufacturers spend a great deal of money on advertising and marketing and it is therefore not uncommon to find promotions where you can receive a free sample pack of diapers and in some cases you could even win a years supply. This is a great way for consumers to try the various brands available and a terrific way for companies to prove to the consumer that their brands are the best value for money.

Effective Strategies for Dealing with Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Sarah Veda

Diaper rash is a really annoying baby problem. It can get out of control easily, and can make your baby miserable. Luckily, it can be controlled with a little effort on your part. Following are some remedies that worked well with my children.

Some babies are just more prone to diaper rash than others, and if yours is prone, youll really have to keep on top of the problem. The most important thing you can do is change your babys diaper regularly. Diaper rash is caused by the skin being constantly exposed to wetness, so changing frequently can prevent the problem. Most of the diaper rash ointments on the market are designed simply to protect your babys skin from wetness, so they are great at preventing diaper rash. If your baby is diaper rash prone, you might want to use an ointment at every changing as a preventative measure.

But, what if your baby already has a raging case of diaper rash? As I said, most of the products labeled as diaper rash ointments are best at preventing diaper rash, not healing it. There are a few concoctions that can help cure a bad case of diaper rash.

The first is Maalox yes Maalox. Put some liquid Maalox on a cotton ball and apply to babys sore bottom. Let it dry a bit before diapering. For obvious reasons, dont buy the mint flavor, and dont use this bottle of Maalox for anything but treating diaper rash.

A second helpful treatment for diaper rash is an oatmeal bath. There are some good oatmeal bath products on the market, even some designed especially for baby. These work wonders on diaper rash. Usually one or two baths is all it takes.

Finally, I had great luck when I mixed diaper rash ointment with a little bit of hydrocortisone cream. About 3 parts diaper rash ointment to one part hydrocortisone. One caution here- check with your doctor before you try this one, since hydrocortisone cream is normally not recommended for use on children under the age of two years.

If these remedies dont work, check with your pediatrician. There may be some prescription products for extreme cases. But, the most important measure to take for diaper rash seems to be persistence. Keeping on top of the problem is your best bet for keeping the rash at bay.

Directions For Making A Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Tim Bock

Baby showers are a great way to celebrate a baby's arrival into this world. There are so many things to consider when planning a baby shower. You need to make important decisions regarding the favors, games, gifts, decorations and cake. One popular cake and decoration idea is a diaper cake.

Diaper cakes are nothing more than baby diapers arranged in the shape of a cake. They also make an excellent centerpiece or gift. It's common to use baby related items, like bibs, rattles, or cloths as decorations for your cake. By giving the entire cake to the mother-to-be, you'll be able to give her many items that she may need.

Directions for a diaper cake are easy. You can either use disposable diapers or cloth. It's best to find out which ones the mom is planning to use. Begin by rolling up a diaper and placing a rubber band around it to hold it in place. Then roll up several more diapers and place it inside the same rubber band. This will be your bottom layer. Do the same thing with fewer diapers for your second and third layers respectively. Place the layers on top of each other. Don't forget to decorate the cake with the items listed above. It's also a good idea to wrap the diaper cake with cellophane, to make sure everything stays in place and it travels easily. When you get to the baby shower, you can unwrap it and place it on the center of the table for everyone to see.

Diaper cakes are a practical gift idea for any baby shower.

Healing of Diaper Rash With Tamanu Oil

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Tina Matsunaga

Your toddler has diaper rash again! Even if his diaper is only slightly wet, he screams in pain because the bodily fluids sting his tender skin. No matter how often change him, he is still miserable. When he was a newborn, you could lay him on his tummy and leave the diaper off for awhile, so his sore bottom could get some relief. However, he is too active now. Letting him "air out" would be a disaster. You definitely need healing of diaper rash with Tamanu Oil.

If you are unfamiliar with this natural healing substance, let me explain. Tamanu oil is found within the kernel of a tropical fruit by the same name. The tree on which it grows is harvested twice a year. The kernels are saved and dried. After a few weeks, the oil is extracted. Unfortunately, the sum total of oil from both crops is approximately 5 kilograms. However, its healing powers definitely make it worth the wait.

Not only has it already been proven to heal diaper rash in a day or less, it does so much more, and without one chemical additive. For instance, in Europe it is used to heal post-surgical wounds, gout, skin allergies, athlete's foot, and is 70-75% affective when treating rheumatism and scabies.

In addition, Pacific islanders use tamanu oil for almost ever skin ailment under the sun. Among its myriad of miracles, it is known to reduce acne scarring, heal eczema, insect bites, and sunburn. In fact, some people use it to reduce foot and body odor!

Tamanu oil has been proven so affective; it is even applied to the skin of leprous patients with positive results. If it can handle a myriad of skin maladies and other diseases, it can certainly take care of your toddler's raging rash. In a matter of hours, you will see a vast improvement. More importantly, your youngster will feel better.

Try it and you will never buy those gooey creams that stick like glue, again. Thus, you baby will not have to smell like a medicine chest, and you will not have to further irritate the skin by spending extra time trying to wipe away, and replace the sticky mess. With Tamanu Oil, you simply clean the skin during every diaper change, like you would anyway, and reapply nature's best treatment.

In fact, if your hands are getting chapped from washing frequently, especially after changing a soiled diaper, tamanu oil can be good for you! The miracle healer can also successful tackle your dry chapped hands. In fact, every member of your family will probably benefit from its application at one time or another.

For example, if you also have a teenager in the house, tamanu oil is great for healing acne. If Dad cuts himself shaving, nature's healer will help repair the wound. Likewise, if big brother crashes on his bike, skinning his knee, the oil will come to the rescue.

In short, Tamanu oil is a natural solution to getting rid of diaper rash in a day, and so much more. Not only will it soothe any skin problem, it also promotes healing and new healthy cell growth. So, get some for your baby's bottom, and keep it around for the myriad of other likely uses for the rest of the family. In essence, it is almost like a medicine chest, full of treatments, in one bottle.

Handmade Diaper Bags

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Max Bellamy

The need for a baby diaper bag dates back to very early times. Several references are found regarding their use to hold special baby clothing such as milkweed leaf wraps, animal skins and other natural resources.

Today, disposable diapers and a host of other baby-related products have found a home in what is known as a "diaper bag." Apart from baby essentials like bottles and wipes, parents like to take along personal items, but it is cumbersome to carry two bags. Consequently, custom diaper bags that are handmade have become quite popular.

The revival of domestic handicraft is driving a cultural boom in all things that are self-made. Things that are knitted, hand-sewn or embroidered are fast gaining in popularity. This fashion movement has also influenced diaper bags design.

Many modern mothers-to-be choose to design and make their own diaper bags. The choices available among handmade diaper bags are overwhelming. In order to have a diaper bag that is stylish, comfortable and customized to their distinct needs, more and more women prefer to make it themselves.

Handmade diaper bags are generally stitched with individualistic patterns. Some people prefer to scan pictures of their babies and put it on the bags. Handmade diaper can be matched with a baby's clothes or nursery. They may carry messages regarding the baby, grandparents, the environment or whatever causes the parents may be supporting. Lined, knitted diaper bags are also quite popular. Even though they are extremely difficult to clean, thus making them impractical; they are considered very chic.

Some parents purchase a plain diaper bag and then make their own additions and special touches. This allows them to choose a bag that works for them, and allows them to be creative as well. Many parents see handmade diaper bags as a style statement, and they take pride in their workmanship.

Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Jimmy Sturo

Diaper Rashes are often caused by excessively moist or dirty diapers. It is a skin inflammation that mostly occurs when the tender skin of a baby reacts to the continuous wetness due to urination or diarrhea. Since it is only a skin inflammation and not a disease, it can be effectively treated at home without any professional medical intervention. However, one needs to be watchful to spot the tell-tale signs of a diaper rash and take immediate action to stop it.

The symptoms of a diaper infection usually include redness of the affected area. The skin may develop blisters, and in some acute cases, may even crack. At times, there could be tiny ulcers in and around the area.

Babies suffering from diaper rash, are often quite fussy, showing signs of extreme discomfort by frequent crying.

Immediate steps must be taken to relieve the child of such pain. The child should firstly be kept diaper-free for as long as possible during the day. The skin should be properly aired in order to make it moisture-free. When wearing diapers, baby should be changed often, and the baby's bottom should be washed only with water, since soaps(even mild ones) may create irritation. The baby should be dried properly. Talcum powder should be avoided on all costs. In its place, some creams or ointments may help the skin repair and should be applied at each changing after cleansing.

Most diaper rashes will disappear if the above tips are carefully followed. However, there could be some rashes that might get worse(a fungal infection). In such cases, help may be sought from a doctor. The doctor will prescribe creams or ointments which contain anti-bacterial medicine to alleviate the problem.

Girl's Canopy Beds

When you are in the market for buying your daughters' next bed, don't forget to take into consideration the importance of the matter. A child has one great refuge & sanctuary from the outside world, and that is her own bedroom. The ultimate place of comfort, safety and security, however, is her own bed. As a loving and nurturing parent, you will want to make sure your child's bed is as wonderful and elegant as possible, if no other reason than to make them feel important and comfortable.

What better way to accomplish this than with a classic style canopy bed? This is every girl's fantasy. When a young child sees a beautiful canopy bed, the first thing that comes to her mind is enchanted fairy tales and lovely princesses in faraway kingdoms with valiant knights traveling to and fro. To a little girl, a canopy bed is a sign and symbol of royalty.

Another "special" aspect of the beloved canopy bed is the fact that the curtains hanging from the top are often adjustable. This can turn the bed into a fortress as far as the child and her active imagination is concerned. It gives them a sense of privacy as well as that of safety. The next time you choose to buy your little princess a bed, make sure it is a canopy bed.

Add to the enchanting, fantasy bedroom theme by adding fairy tale inspired decor and artwork. Hang curtains to match the bedding and include princess themed accents to go with the theme.

Diaper cakes are a wonderful idea of presenting a surprise package to an expecting mother. The number and type of baby items you put in for the cake, determines the size of cake and its number of tiers. Baby items may include patterned diapers, baby hygiene products, bottles, pacifiers, baby towel, toys and so on.

Steps to Make A Diaper Cake:

1. Apart from baby items, you will also need cake decoration stuffs such as artificial roses, ribbons, baby confetti, a cardboard and rubber bands.

2. To make diaper cakes, use at least 10 diapers for the upper tier. Open and tape the first diaper in a jellyroll method around a baby lotion bottle. Similarly, open other diapers and continue rolling them and taping them on the bottle unless you have used all 10 diapers. To make it tight and firm, use rubber bands and double-sided tapes to tie around each tier.

3. Use the remaining diapers (around 50 in number) for the bottom tier. However, do not tie them in a similar fashion. Do not open them, but place them around the bottle one after the other so that they surround the bottle. Use double-sided tapes to tie the first tier firmly with the second.

4. Fun part in making the diaper cake lies in decoration process. Cover all rubber bands and tapes with colorful ribbons. Use baby accessories and items such as a cute bib, to make the cake more decorative.

5. After finishing with the entire process, wrap the it with a cellophane paper and decorate it with ribbons and pins.

Making a diaper cake is not a tough task, but requires time, patience and creativity. The more of these elements one puts in to make it, the more one may expect it to be attractive.

Cost of Cloth Diapers - A Real Savings

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Dawn Michelle

There are a number of reasons for looking into alternatives to using disposable diapers. But the two that are most striking are the financial benefits and the environmental benefits.

When initially researching cloth diapers, one may be shocked by the "sticker price" of quality cloth diapers. Each diaper may cost as much as $20.00 US. Each baby needs a minimum of 10 to 20 cloth diapers to prevent the need from too many loads of laundry per week. The initial cost can be as much as $400. However, that is the only material cost for three to four years because the cloth diapers are reusable and sizable for babies from 7 to 35 pounds.

So what is the cost advantage? Lets look at disposable diaper costs first:

An average baby uses about 8 disposable diapers per day at a cost of $0.30 per disposable diaper. At this rate, disposable diapers cost $875 per year. If you extend that cost over the average length of time a baby is in diapers, say 3 years, the total cost for disposable diapers is $2,625!

No let's look at the cost of cloth diapers:

The cost for 20 sizable, reusable cloth diapers is, as mentioned above, $400. That's pretty much it. But what about the additional cost of washing them? it costs about $1.50 per wash and you'll do about 3 per week or less which calculates to $235 per year x 3 years = $705. So your total cost for cloth diapers over three years is $1105.

Compare the two options over three years:

Disposable diapers: $2,625
Cloth Diapers: $1,105
Cloth Diaper Savings: $1,520
Annual savings: $ 506

Saving $506 annually by using cloth diapers is only the beginning. There are serious environmental benefits as well.

Environmental Factors

* Over the course of the diapering phase, one baby will contribute between 8,000 and 10,000 disposable diapers to landfills.

* It takes 500 years for a disposable diaper to decompose if left out in the open and exposed to sunlight and air; but in a landfill, because they are covered by other waste, they will never decompose.

* It is against the law to dispose of feces in landfills; however, this rule is ignored when it comes to disposable diapers. Disposable diapers containing fecal matter leak viruses such as polio and others into the groundwater supply instead of being properly treated at sewage treatment facilities.

* Dioxins produced by the chlorinated plastics used in disposable diapers, have been associated with liver disease, immune system depression, birth defects, cancer and genetic problems in laboratory animals.

Considering the cost of disposable diapers, the potential health hazards to babies and the environmental impact, many families can benefit from alternatives and help save the environment at the same time. The alternative of cloth diapers can save families money as well as help save the Earth.

Young Mother

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Danielle Bright

On March 27, 1991 at 5:38 am my son Jordan Domonique made his way into the world. He was so tiny, pinkish, and wrinkly with beautiful dark hair, and chestnut brown eyes that would stare at me for a few seconds and then close. He needed to get back to the business of being a newborn. Now, me, I was used to hanging out until five or six a.m. with my friends. However, hanging out for twenty four hours and being in labor for twenty five and half hours are two different animals. Try having a full grown lion for a house pet. Although Im allergic, Ill stick to kitty cats, thanks.

There I was barely over twenty-one and really, and truly for the first time in my life, ever.responsible. I was now responsible for feeding him, clothing him, changing his dirty diapers, entertaining him and just generally being the center of his Universe. That was the easy stuff. At that exact moment I officially became responsible for protecting him from hurt, teaching him not to hurt himself or others. I also had to instill in him a belief in God and himself, social etiquette, how to respect women, his elders, and a strong moral code. This realization exploded like a bomb through my young head. In a word, I was terrified! Prior to my pregnancy my main job was ignoring the values that my parents instilled in me, hanging out with my friends and which bar had no cover charge and the best drink specials!

Kids dont come with instructions. At one point that phrase meant about as much to me as the Presidential election in Mexico. Then one day the heavens opened up, the light shone down and I just got it. Laying there with my beautiful new born baby in my arms I decided to commit my first motherly act. Feeding. So, with good heart, intentions and my newly acquired motherly instincts I decided that two hour old Jordan was ready to eat. My mind gently glazed over the material that Id read about breast feeding. Yes, the factory was rapidly producing and finally the one and only client had arrived to sample the wares. I adjusted myself on the bed, put the baby in position and produced the food vessel. I recall being a little nervous about doing it wrong, but he latched on like an old pro, suckled for maybe two minutes and then spit it out. Nice. I wasnt easily discouraged, so I set him up again only to get the same reaction. Hmmm, strange I thought. So, I gave it the old college try one more time. Again, he wasnt having any part of it. By this time I was a little teary eyed, and a lot paranoid. I didnt want my little two hour old baby to starve to death!

In my new young mother haze, and a stream of worried tears I pushed the button and summoned the on duty nurse.

What can I do for you, the nurse asked.

Well, I began through a haze of tears, My baby wont eat! I was scarred, emphatic and incredibly worried. I also wanted her to show me how to get him to eat.

She glanced at him with a look of pity mixed with a healthy dose of fear, turned her gaze toward me, which had turned annoyed, and says with absolute clarity, Hes probably not hungry.

Mustering the intelligence of a grapefruit, and not even the common sense that God gave a quarter, I said, Oh. Well, he didnt come with instructions after all. I was happy to learn that he too, had to be hungry, before he would eat. Baby lesson number one duly noted.

Finally I had the feedings and diaper changes down to a science. Motherhood was definitely looking up for us both! The time to leave the hospital was upon us. My son had been in diapers and baby night gowns since his arrival. My mother, Florence, brought an adorable outfit for his grand exit.

Jordan was lying on the bed screaming and generally not cooperating. Hed stiffened up his little limbs and he was wailing as loud as he could. Under baby induced duress, I began my attempts at putting on the onesie, shirt, pants, and socks. My mother, God bless her soul, stood by watching as this mess was going on. Jordan would stiffen up every time I tried to get the clothes on. Then if he wasnt doing that, he began waving his arms and legs wildly. He was having no part of getting dressed. I was getting frustrated, and my mother was beginning to loose patience. After all, shed just endured my amateur hour labor and delivery on a broken foot. She too, was having none of my attempts at dressing him. She didnt scream and waive her limbs wildly, she simply said, Nikki, this shouldnt take this long. She then calmly moved me out of the way. She steps in and five minutes later he was fully dressed and ready to go. Now, thats some professional mothering in action!

I learned several lessons over my three day stay in Wishard Hospital. Babies are little people. You cant force a two hour old child to eat if theyre not hungry. They also have ligaments, which enables you to bend their little limbs when they decide not to participate in the dressing process.

Perhaps the greatest thing that I learned was that every step of the way with my new child was going to be a learning experience for both of us. As he grew I grew. Diaper changes, feedings, temper tantrums and laughter. I learned how to deal with all of those things. He learned how to deal with my inexperience and newness to the game of motherhood. My son and I fell into a comfortable flow;we were the stars of the team! It truly takes a village to raise a child. My parents, their close friends, my brother, who was fifteen at the time all pitched in. I learned different things from different people. I learned, and continue to learn from these same people.

Motherhood is filled with so much joy. There is so much to see and learn as you watch your little person grow into someone with a very discernable personality, tastes, opinions and feelings. Motherhood is work. You work to teach your child, to understand them and allow them to grow. This occurs even when they are babies, because as a mother all you want is the best possible outcome for your beautiful baby.

Those first few days at the hospital were like a highly anticipated roller coaster ride. You anticipate going up that hill, for that scary, but fun gut wrenching feeling you get on the drop! WOOSH! The drop hits! That was fun! Then you begin the next climb, and anticipate that same crazy drop with those same gut wrenching feelings. Its a continuous ride, but its always something new to give you those feelings. Whatever thing you go through with your child, Ive learned it gets better and you make it to the other side.

How To Choose Disposable Diapers For Babies

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Sandra Rathbun

Disposable baby diapers have a huge business potential in the United States. This is because most of the parents find baby diapers more convenient as compared to cloth diapers. Other than this, you are not required to wash a disposable diaper.

Disposable diapers were introduced in 1940s, but became popular only gradually. This is because they were expensive in the beginning and not many people could afford to buy them. In addition, early diapers came only in single size and did not fit most of the babies. Therefore, the leakage was more profuse in disposable diapers than cloth diapers. However, disposable diapers started appearing in multiple sizes and designs in 1950's, but they were more popular with rich class. But, with the fall in the prices of disposable diapers in 70's, even middle-class people could afford to buy them. One of the prime reasons to opt for disposable diapers was, and still is - the convenience.

Soon, disposable diapers became light-weighted. Also, they were being manufactured in various sizes and designs. Along with it came diaper rash, which worsens with regular use of diapers. You can easily notice the diaper rash on your child's bottom. However, this rash starts appearing with blisters if the situation becomes worse for the child. Remember, diaper rash is a normal thing, and occurs in almost all the babies, who wear diapers at one point or the other. The child may develop diaper rash due to sensitivity to certain brands or bacterial infection. The baby is also likely to develop rash if the soiled diaper is not removed for a long.

If you want to effectively treat the diaper rash, you must try to keep your baby dry by changing her diapers often. If you clean the area, let it completely dry before you put the diaper rash ointment. It is advisable to use warm, soapy water to clean your baby than using baby wipes. Extra care needs to be taken when you take your baby outside of the house. Remember to frequently check the diaper, and change it if required. You must systematically arrange baby's diaper bag while going out. A diaper bag must be large enough to accommodate all essential items, such as diapers, wipes, clothes, ointment, soothers, blankets, formula milk, bottles, talcum, water bottles, and medicines. However, you can choose to have two different-sized diaper bags to suit different occasions.

In fact baby diapers and diaper bags make great gifts for various occasions, including baby shower and birthday parties. Disposable diapers though don't make great gifts but are certainly useful for parents. However, it makes sense to know the brand preferred by an expectant mother. While gifting a baby diaper bag to an expectant mother, remember to check its size and number of pockets. Most of the bags have plastic travel cases for wipes.

Diaper Cake - A Delightfully Useful Baby Shower Gift

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Saurabh K Jain

Diaper cake can easily be termed as the king of all gifts that you can present to an expectant mom. No matter how many new ones she buys, but a mother of newborn would always find her stock of diapers lacking. What better way to present this intriguingly precious item to the expectant mother than in the shape of a beautiful cake?

A diaper cake, as the name suggests, primarily comprises of diapers. Various other items meant for baby-use are attached / placed on the baby cake to make it look more appealing as well as to increase its utility value for the expectant mother. In fact, diaper cake is so popular that any baby shower party is considered incomplete without the appearance of this majestic gift. Whether it is a baby shower, couple shower, surprise shower, or welcome shower, diaper cake is simply indispensable.

Make It Yourself

A diaper cake is the sort of gift that you can purchase from a store if you wish to and you can easily make this item at home as well. However, you shall have to get the constituents from a store. The items that you need to prepare a diaper cake include diapers, a base or platter made of cardboard, ribbons, adhesive tapes, small decorative items like socks, bibs, toys etc. Most of these items are not costly and can be bought at reasonable prices. If you go for a readymade diaper cake it may prove to be significantly costlier than the one made at home. Therefore, it is better to make it at home.

A diaper cake is not just a gift item. It can be used as a beautiful centerpiece until the party is over. If beautifully made, this item immediately brightens the face of the mom-to-be. An expectant mother associates such items with the life after childbirth. In a curious way, this item prepares the mother for the joys and hardships of bringing up the child.

It is the best if the host or hosts make this item themselves and present to the mom-to-be. The honor of presenting the most special gift of the day should certainly be reserved for them.

Life during pregnancy is full of apprehensions for the expectant mother. Hosting baby showers and giving beautiful gifts like diaper cake is a wonderful way of boosting the expectant mother's morale. Pregnancy celebration would be incomplete if this item is excluded from the list of gifts. Moreover, it is easily affordable.

And remember, the larger the size of the diaper cake, the better it is!

Diaper cake has become almost synonymous with baby shower party. Baby shower is an important pregnancy celebration to cheer the expectant mom braving the discomforts during pregnancy. For more articles on baby shower and other pregnancy related subjects log on to baby showers.

100th Birthday Facts and Celebration

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Gail Leino

In the past decade more and more of us are celebrating our 100th birthday's with increasing amounts of glee. Many centenarians are not only alive, they are able bodied and eager to continue living their lives as they have been doing. The 100th birthday is considered something of a milestone marking wisdom and true life experience. As such we should celebrate the 100th birthday as much as possible. There is just something about those double zeros that makes friends and relatives want to come over and say congratulations.

You will find plenty in the way of party supplies for this celebration. Paper plates, napkins and tablecloths sporting the ever classic 'Happy 100th' are just the beginning. Sometimes your new centenarian will have a sense of humor about his or her age and you can set up a humorous party. Guests can give gag gifts such as adult diapers, and walking canes with rearview mirrors. The 100th birthday doesn't have to apply to a person either.

It can, and is often the number used to celebrate the founding of a town or building. After all, the world's largest birthday cake was created in 1989 for the 100th year celebration of the founding of a Fort Payne in Alabama. In any such case the celebration of the 100th birthday is bound to be a large event and you'll need to make sure that you have plenty of room for all the guests. The party can be held outdoors if the weather is nice or in a larger hall. Most local Senior Centers will have plenty of room and you should find that those operating the centers are usually more than willing to offer up some space for such an important celebration. That is as long as you ask them politely and well in advance of the occasion so that they have time to mark it on their books.

Essential Baby Gear For New Moms - Part 2 of 4

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

Welcome to Part 2 of Essential Baby Gear For New Moms. Part 2 will focus on portable diaper changing pads. Most diaper bags on the market today comes with a detachable diaper changing pad. These diaper changing pads are usually rectangular shaped so it can be quite challenging to keep you baby on the changing pad if you have a little squirmy one. Also, if you're always on the go and need to run that quick errand with your baby, it can be a hassle to lug your diaper bag with you when all you need are a few diapers, wipes, and a changing pad. So what do you do?

Fortunately, there a many portable diaper changing pads out in the market that will solve this dilemma. I want to focus on three of my favorite diaper changing pads which is chic, practical, and functional.

Plush Pad by Ah Goo Baby

The Plush Pad by Ah Goo Baby is a 2 x 2 (feet) square shaped diaper changing pad that features a body contouring memory foam. The memory foam is similar to the memory foam pillows and beds in the market today, therefore, it conforms to the shape of your baby's body. When rolled up, this diaper changing pad measures 3 inches x 10 inches (cylindrical shaped) which can easily be thrown into your purse or diaper bag.

The Plush Pad is water resistant and machine washable and comes in 9 different styles. It's one of my favorite products.

Patemm Pad

The Patemm Pad is an interesting diaper changing pad because of its circular shape. Even with a squirmy baby, you don't have to worry about your baby rolling off of the Patemm Pad. This diaper changing pad comes in two styles and sizes, 24 inch and 30 inch, and one with inside pockets and one without the inside pockets. The Patemm Pad with pockets enables moms to carry up to 20 wipes in a travel pack or small sealable sandwich bags, 1-2 diapers, and clothes. The Patemm Pad also features four handles which is used to fold and unfold the pads. When folded, the 30 inch Patemm Pad becomes a 10 inch square and 1.5 to 2 inches thick. The 24 inch Patemm Pad folds to an eight inch square and 1.5 to 2 inches thick. The Patemm Pad is waterproof and stain and soil resistant

The Patemm Pad, and its inventor, Grace Welch, has been featured on Oprah Winfrey and CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsche.

Bonnie Changing Kit By Bumble Collection

The Bonnie Changing Kit is made by the Bumble Collection, the maker of the popular Bumble Bag Collection that so many celebrities are carrying. The Bonnie Changing Kit is for moms who are on the go and do not want to lug their big diaper bag. On the inside, the Changing Kit has two pockets to store a few diapers and wipes. When folded out, the Bonnie Changing Kit features a toddler sized changing pad. The Changing Kit is also water and stain resistant with a soil proof lining.

When folded, the Changing Kit measures 10"L x 12" H x 2" W. It has an adjustable strap and can easily be hung on a stroller handle. All of the designs on the Bonnie Changing Kit, as well as all of Bumble Collections' products are a one of a kind design. One thing you'll notice in the baby gear market is that you'll see the same design or pattern on a product from many different companies. WIth the Bumble Collections' product line, you won't see any other companies with that same design.

If you are considering purchasing a diaper changing pad, I hope this article will help you in deciding which one is best for you. For more information on the diaper changing pads discussed in this article, please click on the following link:

How to Detail Your Automobile

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:00 AM

By Komaka Wilson

Some say that Guido da Vigevano built the first car in 1335 that used a windmill type assembly to drive a set of gears to turn the wheels. I would say that if that is the case, that he probably was also the first one to clean a car. Now the car wash/detailing industry has become a multi-billion dollar industry. Although why would you want to spend you hard earned money on having some one else detail your car? When you could do it yourself, and make sure it is completed correctly and the way you want. Besides I know a lot of car enthusiast out there who would really prefer to detail their cars themselves.

After years of experience and talking with some of the best product/technical representatives around today, I have compiled a how to guide for car owners that want to do there own work. This guide is intended for all car enthusiasts on all levels. Maybe you are new to car detailing or you are just looking for some new "tricks" to give you the advantage at your next car show. Either way I hope that this guide helps you on your journey.

First off detailing is hard work and time consuming. No matter what your reason for wanting to detail your car from wanting to attend a car show to selling your vehicle detailing will be well worth your time and effort. Now there are products out there that say that it will cut your time in half, and that you only need to do it once a year. However, several professional detailers I talked with said that many of the new cheaper products are indeed too good to be true and can damage paint jobs. This is why I suggest staying away from low quality products and sticking with the known products. There is nothing that works as well as hard work and some elbow grease. I will make some suggestions as I continue through the guide, but if you have a product you really like, go ahead and use it.

Before you get started you will need:

Paper towels, rags, and chamois. Old t-shirts work well, and if you can find any old "clean" cloth diaper use them because they make excellent rags for polishing the finish and are great for windows.

Brushes. You'll need a few different varieties and sizes to get into the hard to reach areas. An old toothbrush works well, and several cotton swabs.

Wash bucket. Make sure it is clean, and you may want to keep is as your car washing bucket only. This may help prevent getting unwanted dirt and chemicals in a bucket you use to clean your car with.

Wash mitts and or a good quality sponge.

Bug removal sponge

Power Washer or a good hose nozzle with different head types. Power Washers are getting pretty reasonably priced now and you can pick them up at any hardware store.

Shop Vacuum or equivalent.

Orbital Buffer. Again these are getting pretty reasonably priced.

Now where to begin? Most professionals I talk to suggest starting on the interior first, so the dust and dirt you brush out won't settle on a cleaned exterior. Remove any floor mats and give the carpeting and upholstery a good vacuuming. Move the seats forward and backward to get all the dirt including in the tracks, and door jams. You should also use one of your harder bristled brushes to get any dirt out from the cracks; it is also good for stirring up the carpet mat so you can get most of the junk out of the carpet.

Now if you have any stubborn stains in the upholstery or carpet this is the time to deal with them. Use an all purpose cleaner to get the stubborn stains out. Saturate the stain with cleaner, working it in with a damp sponge. Let it sit awhile and then blot it out with a dry towel. Make sure to read the direction on the cleaner for specific precautions. You can also use a window cleaner sprayed on a rag to get the headliner clean. Don't forget the trunk/hatchback areas as well.

You can repair burns and holes in your carpet by cutting out the area with a razor blade. Then cut a similar size piece from a hidden spot, such as underneath the seat, and cement it in place using a water resistant adhesive. Blend in the repair by brushing the repaired piece with the old. You can also go to a carpet outlet and can buy a carpet sample for pretty reasonable price that could match the carpet of the car. If your carpet is still looking bad you can shampoo it to get any remaining dirt and grease out. You can usually rent these machines at a carpet store or even you local grocery/retail chain. Start with the carpets on the driver's side then the seats; this keeps the water to a minimum. Move around the whole car until you're done. Again make sure you read any precautions from the manufacturer.

Now move on to the interiors hard surfaces, clean them with a damp cloth and a mild all-purpose cleaner. If you have leather upholstery, dress the surfaces with a leather conditioner; spray it on a rag for tight areas. Never use a vinyl product on leather. Worn or torn areas of vinyl can be repaired using kits made for this purpose. Repairs are made with a patch that lets you match the color and grain of your upholstery. Worn areas of leather can be touched up with dyes or a high grade shoe polish.

Now for one of the harder parts the dash. First you can blast any dust away with a can of compressed air. Clean air vent grilles with cotton swabs and brighten them up by misting on some spray on rubber dressing. Spray any dress up cleaner on a soft towel and then apply it to the rest of the dash, be careful around the instrument panel.

Then move on to the windows. If you are like me, then you hate cleaning windows for the fear of streaks. Some pointers in this area are to don't spray directly on the window, but onto a rag. Have a dry cloth ready to wipe it dry. You can even use newspaper to wipe it dry, the abrasiveness acts like a polish and it won't leave any streaks. Also make sure you rinse your hands off before cleaning your windows, this will help remove any unwanted dressing. If you have aftermarket window tint film, it may be degraded by cleaners that contain ammonia or vinegar. Factory tinting is in the glass and is not affected by these cleaners.

Now it's time to move to the exterior of your car, well kind of, detailing your engine. First you will need to cover any sensitive equipment such as electrical components. Try using a heavy duty aluminum foil for this step. If you use a home pressure washer for this, be careful, you can blow water in areas that weren't meant to get wet. I prefer using a regular garden home for this step. After you have sealed everything off, spray a heavy duty degreaser on to the cool temperature engine. Again read any warnings or precautions on the degreaser. Use a pointy brush to get any stubborn deposits. Then spray down with your hose, making sure you get all of the degreaser off.

Once you're satisfied, start up the motor and let it run for a while with the hood down. Then remove the foil and use a rag sprayed with the degreaser and wipe down any parts covered. Now you can wipe everything down with a rubber dressing or shining product. However, do not spray or wipe down your belts, and make sure you read any precautions on the product.

Were finally on to the part about actually washing your car. Make sure that you are using a clean wash mitt or sponge, and that your bucket is free of dirt and contaminates. Work in the shade and make sure the surface is cool. Make sure that you are using a good car wash, and don't use dishwashing detergents. The dishwashing detergent damages the finish, stripping it of vital oils causing it to dry out.

Presoak the car first making sure you get rid of any of the big dirt. Also remove any bug and tar items time using tar & bug remover with a sponge. Move on to the rims, since rims collect brake dust and road debris. Use a wheel cleaner that is made for your type of rims such as being clear coated or not. Don't overlook the under side of the vehicle, and the gas cap lid as well. Now start at the top of your vehicle and move your way down. Make sure that you get all areas, and rinse often. To do a final rinse, remove the spray head from the hose and flood the finish. The water will tend to run off in sheets, minimizing spotting. When drying the vehicle off, you can use a chamois to get the bulk of the water, but finish it off with soft towels.

When you're done washing and the car is mostly dry, apply your rubber dressings to the tires, bumpers and any plastic parts you want to shine. This gives the car to finish drying and you can then look for missed areas or water runs.

Most people stop here and say they are done, if they even get to this point. They over look one of the most important steps in detailing and preserving a vehicle, and that is waxing. Now the market is full of different types of waxing products, but how many of them actually work? Most of the average cheap waxes contain a very small portion of wax in them, and use petroleum instead. Products that are like this do very little in preserving and waxing the paint, if anything they just waste your time and money. Also be aware of the spray on wax with water. These waxes might give some protection for a day or two, but nothing like the protection of a carnauba wax.

Before you wax you need to get rid of any oxidation you may have. Typically, you will not have to do this every time. Oxidation depends on how much you wax, when you wax, how much sun the car is exposed to, and other weather conditions. Oxidation can usually be removed with a clear coat compound. For standard finishes you can step up to polishing compound, which is mild but still too harsh for clear coats. If you do use these products, you must seal the paint after.

If you decided to use a compound for oxidation, then you must seal the paint. You can buy a glaze/sealer to do this. Most sealers or glazers you apply by wiping on. Then use soft towels to remove it after it has hazed over.

Now you are ready to wax. Make sure you are using a good wax, preferably one with high amounts of carnauba wax in it. Again, start at the top of your vehicle and do small sections as you work your way down. Don't let it sit more than 5-8 minutes before removing, and two thin coats of this is much better than one thick coat. Also apply it with a side to side motion instead of circular to prevent swirls. Be sure to include door jambs, and the areas beneath door hinges and behind bumpers. Minor blemishes may be neutralized by wrapping a cotton cloth around your index finger and burnishing the polish into the finish.

If you machine-buff the polish/wax to a high luster, go with an orbital rather than a rotary model, which would be more likely to burn the paint. The rotary buffer is much faster than orbital but in the wrong hands can easily damage paint. Treat the plastic chrome as if it were a painted surface and protect it with a light coat of wax. Try and not get any on the black rubberized parts. If you do, spray it with a mist and wipe product and wipe it down with a terry cloth towel. If that doesn't work a professional detailer gave this as a suggestion: Microwave some peanut butter and apply it to the stain with a soft toothbrush. Peanut butter's oils dissolve the wax and its abrasive enough to lift the stain. If you get a polish/wax residue around emblems or in crevices, break out the cotton swabs and toothbrushes. After removing it all go around and remove any excess from the cracks and emblems using a brush and towel. Cloth diapers are excellent for buffing up a shine.

Here's a tip: break the car down into equal sections. Apply the prep/sealer/wax to one section at a time before moving on to the next. This let's you concentrate your efforts on small areas at a time.

Also keep a good car duster around for getting the dust that some products leave behind.
Plus remember to protect your cars finish from the elements as much as possible. This means storing the car in a garage, covered area, or with a good quality car cover. A car that is constantly exposed to sunlight and other environmental hazards will deteriorate quicker and require significantly more cosmetic maintenance.

Caring For Your Baby's Umbilical Cord

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Connie Limon

From the sixth week of pregnancy until birth there is an umbilical cord that connects the developing fetus to the mother through the placenta. It exists as a lifeline that supplies the developing fetus with oxygen, nutrition and a route for waste elimination while the fetus is within the womb.

At birth, the baby is able to breathe, eat, and void by itself. The umbilical cord is no longer necessary and is clamped and cut shortly after delivery.

The remaining cord after babys birth requires proper care to heal and drop off naturally. This occurs usually within 2 weeks after birth.

There are two conditions that will require prompt medical care. These are:

Umbilical granuloma: This is a persistent, yellow-green drainage from the belly button, no redness, warmth, swelling or tenderness of the surrounding skin is present. Fever will not usually be present. A small nodule of firm, pinkish-red tissue represents an umbilical granuloma. This condition can be treated successfully in the doctors office.

Patent urachus: Top of babys diaper continuously wet, or fluid leaking from the belly button could represent a rare condition where the normal connection between the fetal bladder and the umbilical cord has remained open after the birth of the baby. Call your doctor if you notice these symptoms.

Conditions that require immediate emergency room evaluation include:

Any redness, warmth, swelling, or tenderness in the skin around the belly button, or lots of discharge from it, especially if the discharge smells bad. This could be omphalitis, which is a potentially life-threatening infection of the umbilical stump and the surrounding area. This condition requires prompt evaluation and treatment in the hospital.

Umbilical cord treatment after birth:

During the first hour after delivery and usually following the babys first bath, the umbilical stump is treated with an antibiotic applied directly onto it, to decrease the chance for infection.

Twenty-four hours after delivery, the clamp can be removed from the stump. It is best to be sure this clamp is removed at the hospital before you take your baby home. If it is not removed at the hospital there is a chance the clamp can get stuck during home diaper changes and can pull on and injure the stump.

Umbilical cord treatment and self-care at home includes:

Little is required to care for the stump once you are home with the baby. Wipe the stump and the surrounding skin area with rubbing alcohol two to three times a day until the stump falls off. If you notice a small amount of yellowish ooze or even a drop of blood at this time, this is normal and no cause for concern.

Keep the area dry. This is very important and the reasons why you are not suppose to bathe the baby until later.

You can help with cord care by keeping the diaper rolled out and down (so the inside of the diaper is showing) to allow the stump to be exposed to the air keeping it dry. The rolled diaper will not trap the cord inside the diaper. If you roll the diaper in and down, it will place the plastic outer side of the diaper against the stomach and make the baby uncomfortable.

The cord usually falls off within the first 2 weeks. At this time, you might notice a small, pinkish area in the bottom of the belly button that will not look like the rest of the skin. This is normal and expected. Normal skin will grow over it. Once this occurs, it is safe to give your baby a bath.

There is no means of preventing granuloma, urachus and opmhalitis. Antibiotics can be given to prevent recurring bladder infections. The steps performed from moment the cord is cut with a sterile blade, to the antibiotic applied to prevent infection, to the need to keep the cord dry, are all precautions aimed at preventing the serious condition of omphalitis. If your baby develops any of the three conditions mentioned, once treated, all conditions have excellent outcomes.

Doctors Should Use Promotional Products Like Dentists Do - 5 Ideas How

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Valerie Harmon

I think doctors should give out promotional items like dentists do. We reveal more and pay more to a doctor than we do a dentist, and a little gift would do much to sweeten a doctor's office visit. Not only that, but a doctor's office is a business and the goals of better patient retention, increasing patient visits (the health maintenance type) and improving the health of a patient, can be accomplished with a well-orchestrated marketing plan.

Most doctors give out some freebies-but they tend to be prescription drug company samples, and that promotes a particular pill, not the doctor's services. A better marketing package would add the free pill sample to a bag with a brochure encouraging patient visits for health maintenance, like annual exams or vaccinations. Of course each brochure (and perhaps pill sample) should include a stamp or business card with the doctor's office information on it.

A good marketing plan would also add a memorable promotional item to the bag. Promotional products that show the doctor cares and that are inexpensive enough to be handed out liberally are ideal. Here are five suggestions:

1. Pill holders-Pills and vitamins get taken daily and so a logo on a pill holder gets noticed every day. Because of its daily visibility, this is one of the best promotional products a doctor could give.

2. First Aid Wallet-This promotion has a business card-like imprint space and its small size makes it very useful (it won't get thrown away). It has an Advil and antacid packet, three antiseptic towelettes, 4 bandages and a first aid cream packet and adhesive pad. Perfect for on-the-go first aid needs and the patient remembers the doctor when they're hurt.

3. Child I.D. Kit-This promotional product has an ink strip for fingerprinting, a place for vital information and a personal record-keeping folder all contained in wallet size. Memorable and caring, patients will keep it around.

4. Bandages in a Dispenser-only five bandages (like Band-Aids) are in these colorful dispensers, but its size makes it perfect for the purse or diaper bag. It's an inexpensive promotion that won't get thrown out until the bandages are gone.

5. Imprinted baby keys-I think this one is perfect for patients with babies. The logo is printed on a tag hooked onto toy baby keys. Babies like chewing on toy keys, and parents see the logo every day as baby plays. Great logo placement for family doctors.

These five promotional ideas are only a few out of the hundreds of promotions doctors could feel good about giving to their patients. Patients would love to have any of these small gifts in a goodie bag, and doctors can show they care while promoting their business at the same time.

Baby Shower Centerpieces - The Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Dana Prince

Diaper cakes look like a cake but are a useful baby shower gift. They are generally a gift consisting mostly of newborn sized diapers but can also be filled with other useful gifts as well that make up the structure of the diaper cake as well as act as decorations.

The idea is to give this as a decorative gift and the Mom-to-be will disassemble it at home and use the items that make up the multiple levels of tiers.

Centerpiece Design Ideas

Use various items in the cake including:

  • receiving blankets

  • rattles

  • bibs

  • face cloths

  • stuffed animals

  • personalized items

  • And whatever else you can think of that looks great and fits in. Don't forget to take pictures!

Use coloured ribbons to hold it together or if you're feeling extra creative, use thin receiving blankets that can be wound like ribbons to hold the diapers in place and you can use multiple layers. For diapers you can either use disposables or cloth diapers; they both work well and you can integrate other folded items in between. A stuffed animal or bottles can be the crowning glory and if you choose an animal, it can even wear a newborn baby outfit as part of the gift. The stuffed animal can be a great item of personalization as well with a cross stitched bib around its neck.

    Baby Shower Decor

Diaper cakes make a great centerpiece for the table. Of course, you'll probably want to have a real edible cake as well to celebrate the occasion but the tiers of diapers can work great as a centerpiece. This makes a great gift from the hostess who is holding the party for the Mom-to-Be as it works well for the party decor as well as serving double-duty as a gift as well.

You can have a themed cake that works with the colours for the baby's nursery if you like or if the gender of the baby is known, the cake can be the appropriate pink or blue.

    Where to Get Diaper Cakes

If you're not the diy type, you can buy a diaper cake from many online sources but there are a number of videos, e-books and tutorials online that you can use to help you come up with ideas for different designs as well as directions on how to make one.

Easy Directions for Making a Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

    By Tim Bock

Betty Crocker may not be needed for this project but a diaper cake makes a wonderful addition to any baby shower.

You will start with the ingredients and put the cake together in a short amount of time. The diaper cake makes a perfect centerpiece and can be made ahead of time.

You will need about 50 medium disposable diapers and a 16 disposable cardboard platter. Thin rubber bands will be needed and 5-6 feet of ผ to ฝ ribbon plus 8-10 feet of 1 wide ribbon. Also purchase a large baby bottle, small candies to fill the bottle, double sided adhesive tape and small baby items like booties, nail clippers, pacifiers, rattles, a brush and comb, etc.

Roll the diapers into tight rolls and secure with the rubber bands. You will use the diapers to make three layers. Begin with the baby bottle filled with the candies and place it into the middle of 5-6 diapers. Tie this all together with the 1 ribbon.

Make the second tier using about 15 diapers. Tie this layer together with the narrower ribbon. For the third tier you will need approximately 27 diapers. Make the center first and tie it together. Place more diapers around this circle and tie. Finish this layer by adding a third row of diapers around the second circle and tie with the narrow ribbon.

Put pieces of the tape on the platter and place the first layer on the platter. Add more pieces of tape and add the next layer. Finish with the third layer. Tuck the baby items around the outside of the cake by sliding them under the ribbon. Finish the cake by tying the 1 ribbon around each layer.

A diaper cake is a creative way to make a baby shower special.

How to Make an Elegant Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

    By Sophia Ton

It is easy to make a diaper cake today. There are many sources which will teach you how to make an elegant diaper cake it will depend on you whether you have the inclination to make it yourself or to buy it. There are many websites which will teach you to make a diaper cake. There are even more websites which will teach you how to make an elegant diaper cake.

How Does a Normal Diaper Cake Differ From an Elegant Diaper Cake?

A normal diaper cake will be made of the same ingredients as an elegant diaper cake. There will be diapers, there will lovely gifts, and there would be a lot of other lovely things that one would like to be able to give to the baby and the would-be-mother. The way you combine it to make the cake, will decide whether it is just a simple cake, or an elaborately done elegant diaper cake.

The elegant diaper cake will have all the things that a simple cake will have, but they will be put together in a very fashionable way so it will look very impressive from the first glance. Usually, the diaper cakes done at home are funnier. Those which are bought are elegant because they have to impress the buyer. Either way, the diaper cake is a great thing to gift a person during a baby shower party.

This is because it is made of many useful things for the baby, and it usually looks extremely funny to any person who lays its eyes on it. In this way you provide both an entertainment tool for the party, as well as a very practical gift to the would-be-mother. There would be some 50 odd diapers which make the cake. Other than that they would be a lot of other gifts that the baby would be profited from.

This tradition of giving a diaper cake started from the need of combining practicality with fun. The person, who gifts such a cake, will have to balance the practical part of a gift with the fun part. The party will definitely be livelier with an elegant diaper cake around. The best suggestion would be to have the gifts tucked in very nicely on the cake with the help of transparent tape. Ensure that you fix the toys and other items carefully, so after they open it up to use the gifts and disentangle it, the recipient of the cake could be able to use as many as possible items.

10 Items of the Well-Stocked Diaper Bag

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

    By Karen Bianchi

Does your diaper bag have everything you need in it? Of course, you have the basic items: diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. But are you equipped for any "baby situation" that could possibly arise? It may seem like a lot of gear, but if you bring along the following baby paraphernalia when you head out, youll be ready for just about anything.

    1. Diapers-

Bring more than you think youll need. Even if your babys body works like clockwork, today could be the day when everything changes. Extra supplies also come in handy if your outing keeps you out longer than you had planned.

    2. Baby Wipes-

Same goes for the wipes. Theyre also great for cleaning spit-up off of little hands, folds of the neck and yourself.

    3. Change of Clothes For Baby-

Make sure this is a complete change of clothes, including extra socks if the outfit requires. There is no such thing as a leak-proof diaper. Sometimes the mess can travel further than you can imagine.

    4. Spare Shirt For Yourself-

There arent many moments more uncomfortable than walking around wearing your babys lunch or reeking of sour baby odors.

    5. 2-Quart Sized Resealable Plastic Bags-

These are perfect for storing soiled clothing until you get home.

    6. Extra Food-

Pack one more feeding than you think youll need. If today is the day your baby decides to increase his or her food intake, or, once again, if you are out longer than you planned, you'll want to be prepared with enough food.

    7. Plastic Changing Pad-

Youll always have a clean place to lay your baby for diaper and clothing changes if you bring this along. Many times, these come with the diaper bag.

    8. Blanket or Jacket-

If the weather becomes cooler while youre out and youre not prepared, you may be heading home sooner than youd like. Also, some malls and grocery stores maintain cooler temperatures than you may have dressed your baby for.

    9. Extra Pacifier-

Store one in a plastic sandwich bag. If one drops on the floor or mysteriously disappears, as pacifiers are wont to do, itll be no big deal.

    10. Pediatricians Phone Number-

Hopefully, youll never need to call your babys doctor while youre away from home. But if you do, youll be glad you have it.
