4 Easy Tips to Getting Free Samples of Baby Stuff

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:25 AM

By Brian S Cooper

Did you know that every day hundreds of companies that manufacture or market baby related products are giving away free samples and coupons to new Moms and Dads all across the country? I can tell you from first hand experience that it does happen and that we have saved literally hundreds of dollars since our daughter was born from all of the free things we've received. What I'm about to tell you is the SECRET to getting free samples of baby stuff including diapers, formula, magazines, clothes and much more!

It started back when our daughter was born in October. She was our first child so we were totally green when it came to what she would need. Luckily we had a great nursing staff at the hospital who helped us learn what to do and that was a big help. When we were about to leave the hospital to go home for the first time with our little daughter a nurse stopped us and gave us a nice bag with all kinds of free goodies. She mentioned that the manufacturers provided the hospitals with all kinds of free samples and starter kits for new Moms and Dads so we were thrilled to have some things to get us started. Inside the bag were tons of coupons, free samples of Enfamil and Similac baby formulas, some sample diapers, magazines and a bunch of other things. We were so happy to get all of these things so we started thinking about other ways we could get free samples and especially coupons since our newborn was probably going to be drinking a lot of formula over the next few years.

So after we got home I started to try and learn how to get more coupons and samples as we could always use them. Sure enough I found a bunch of ways to get free things and here are my 4 best tips on how to get the best free samples of baby stuff:

1. Attend Baby Related Trade Shows: We attended a baby trade show at our local Expo Center and it was freebie heaven! We walked out with bags full of samples, coupons and reading material, which was enough to save us hundreds of dollars on things for our daughter. The best way to do this is to search online for all conference and exposition centers within driving distance and then find out when the next show is scheduled. You can also Google search for "Baby Shows" or "Family Shows" and see what you can come up with. It's a great way to get tons of free baby things.

2. Get Free Baby Stuff from your Pediatrician: After a few months our little daughter developed an allergy to milk products so we were forced to find a non-dairy alternative formula. We finally found a soy formula that she liked and that was very nutritious however it was EXTREMELY costly. Luckily our Pediatrician had sample cans of the formula that we were able to get every time we had an appointment with the doctor! If they gave us two cans of powder formula every time we stopped in it was like handing us a $20 bill! Don't hesitate to ask your doctor for free samples next time. They get tons of this stuff from manufacturers every day and would be happy to give them to you.

3. Sign up online directly with manufacturers: We did this quite a bit as there were certain products that we used quite a bit of (i.e. Huggies diapers, Similac Soy formula, etc.) All you need to do is Google search for the company's website and normally they have a place to put your name, address and email so they can send you free samples and coupons. Similac is especially a good place to sign up for stuff as you'll get really good coupons and they'll even send you small cans of formula for free as well. (TIP: Get your family and friends to sign up for you as well so that you can get twice as much free stuff!)

4. Google search for free baby stuff: If you go to Google or any other search engine you can search for "free baby stuff" or "free baby coupons" plus many other keyword searches that will bring you to sites where you can sign up for all kinds of free things. It's probably the easiest and quickest way to sign up for free stuff and most times you'll only need an email address and physical address where they can send coupons and samples.

So as you can see there are many ways to get free baby stuff whether it's from trade shows and your pediatrician or from online websites. We have saved so much money by using these free resources and the great thing was that it was easy and takes little effort. So keep your eyes open and you'll find great free deals as well for your new baby!

How To Make A Diaper Cake That Will Be The Hit Of Any Baby Shower

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:30 AM

By June Campbell

A diaper cake is often associated with a baby shower. If youre wondering how to make a diaper cake, then I have some surprising news for you. A diaper cake is not a cake to eat. It is not food. A diaper cake is made from diapers assembled in the shape of a cake and decorated with ribbons, lace, bows and small gift items. Its meant for decorating a baby shower and its a hugely popular item.

When you decide how to make a diaper cake, you first decide how big you want the cake to be, and how many tiers. You can find recipes for diaper cakes on various Internet web sites. You buy as many nappies as you will need. Typically, diaper cakes take around eighty diapers, although obviously this varies depending on how you want to make your diaper cake.

The next thing to know about how to make a diaper cake is that you roll each diaper into a cylinder and fasten it together with a rubber band or safety pin. If you wish, you can roll a small gift item such as a gift card, baby bootie, bib, small toy, etc., inside the diaper. Its part of the fun for the new mom to unroll each diaper and discover a treasure buried within.

Once you have rolled your diapers into cylinders, you locate something to use as a base or platform for your diaper cake. You might use a square of sturdy cardboard, gaily decorated of course. For the next step, it helps to have an extra set of hands around to hold things in place while you assemble. Knowing how to make a diaper cake sometimes means knowing who you can call to come help you for five minutes during this somewhat awkward step.

You place an object such as a baby bottle or a cardboard roll such as you find inside a roll of paper towels in the center of the platform. Next, stand the cylindrically shaped diapers on end, and arrange them around the bottle or roll. You can pin them to one another at this point, or use ribbon or some other type of cord to tie each circle of diapers in place. Continuing adding diapers round and round until you have built the bottom tier of your diaper cake to the size you want.

Repeat for any other tiers you plan on making.

Next, the part that is most fun when planning how to make a diaper cake is to do the decorations. You might use ribbon, lace, wool or other type of cord to tie around each layer of cake. Tuck in any number of smaller gift items suitable for a baby. You might consider bibs, bonnets, onesies, lotions, powders, teddy tears, rattles, bottles and other baby-related goodies.

Thinking about is almost as much fun as seeing the delighted mom to be squeal with joy at your wonderful creation.

Yes, you can do it! Even if you are all thumbs! You can make the perfect baby shower gift. Create a joyous, colorful diaper cake that will have them talking long after the shower is over. Find out more at

High anxiety is no laughing matter

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:26 AM

A 1977 film by film-maker Mel Brooks entitled, High Anxiety takes a comedic look at the mental health industry and the various approaches taken to treat anxiety disorder. The movie was given two Golden Globe nominations even if it did not do too well at the box office. Brooks, known throughout Hollywood as a comedic genius, deliberately made this movie as a spook of the more-serious psychological thrillers made by Alfred Hitchcock.

While it is true that laughter is the best medicine, high anxiety is certainly no laughing matter. In real life,
High anxiety can lead to panic attacks, phobia and other disturbing behavior associated with excessive nervousness or fear. It is an unpleasant feeling that is often accompanied by palpitations, chest pain, nausea, and headaches.

But what exactly is the cause of anxiety? According to medical experts, a โre-settingโ of an organ in the brain called โamygdala.โ Amygdala is an ancient Greek word for almond. The amygdala, shaped like an almond, is found inside the medial temporal lobes of the brain. As part of the limbic system, it performs a role in the processing of emotional reactions and memory. This organ is connected to several brain centers such as the visual cortex and the neocortex. In recent laboratory research, people who were made to view depressing images or films showed changes in their glucose metabolism. After watching horrible scenes such as a plane crash or predatory scenes in animals, men were found to have had increased glucose metabolism on the right side of the amygdala. Women, on the other hand, developed increased metabolism on the left side of the said organ.

If left uncontrolled, emotional disorders can cause major health problems, suffer poor performance at work or in school, and even cause damage to their professional and personal relationships. To avoid a total mental, emotional and physical breakdown, people suffering from emotional disorders should consult a doctor or a therapist. Often, after a careful interview and evaluation, the doctor would prescribe
anti anxiety medication. The drugs are given to help relieve the symptoms of anxiety. These prescription pills work to block the neurotransmitters that are known to influence cases of depression. It is very important to control depression because, as medical histories have shown, it is one of the most common causes of relationship problems, health degradation, and even in the rise of suicidal thoughts among depressed individuals.

One of the more effective prescriptions today is bupropion, an antidepressant and a substance used to control excessive smoking. Clinical studies involving the introduction of multi-placebo samples showed that the use of bupropion is effective for the treatment of depression. The said substance is said to be the fourth most prescribed antidepressant in America today, grossing over 21 million prescriptions since it was released in the market. First developed in 1966, bupropion was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1984 for medical and therapeutic use.
Today, bupropion is marketed under the brand name Wellbutrin, which is strictly a prescription drug that comes in slow release and extended release variants. If taken without doctor supervision, the drug may cause seizures. It is also not recommended for patients below 18 years old. But under the care of a doctor or a health professional, the of use of this drug can be the fastest way to remove the symptoms of excessive fear and apprehension.

Yeast Infections and Your Baby - What You Should Know Today

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:27 AM

By Jane Symms

Believe it or not, but even babies can be affected by candida overgrowth and can experience yeast infections. The most common yeast infections suffered by babies is diaper dermatitis (better known as diaper rash) and oral (mouth) thrush. In many cases, a baby can experience both of these candida infections at the same time.

How do you know if your child has a yeast infection caused by candida? The following are symptoms of a baby yeast infection you should watch for:

Diaper Dermatitis symptoms - Deep red rash that looks shiny and has satellite lesions. The rash typically appears in the creases or folds of the thighs located in the diaper area and spreads.

Oral Thrush symptoms - Gray-white coating that is present on the tongue, gums and inside cheeks. This coating will not be easy to wipe off. In rare cases, oral thrush may be severe and the baby may find sucking painful.

What causes these baby yeast infections? Yeast infections caused by candida start with a build up of fungus in the intestines. Yeast infections develop in warm, moist environments where bacteria can thrive. For a baby, the best environment for growing bacteria is the diaper and the mouth. This overgrowth of fungus, along with other factors, may lead to diaper rash or oral thrush.

Causes of diaper dermatitis - Diaper rash is primarily caused by a wet or soiled diaper. Skin can be irritated by urine or stool. Irritation can also occur from diarrhea which can be highly acidic and burn the skin. The rash can also result from tightly fitted, air-tight plastic pants which prevent moisture from evaporating.

Causes of oral thrush Oral thrush typically occurs in babies who are still in diapers. It can result from taking antibiotics to treat another infection, and can occur if the baby has excessive candida albicans in their system; they have damaged skin; or if there is a yeast infection present on the mothers nipples.

Diagnosis and treatment - If you suspect a baby yeast infection, take your child to his/her pediatrician so the infection can be properly diagnosed. Once diagnosed, treatment will be prescribed based on what the doctor deems best for your child. Factors that determine treatment may include the age of your child, the severity of the infection, and if there are any pre-existing medical conditions.

Treatment for diaper dermatitis

- Removing diaper for a few days

- Medicated or anti-inflammatory creams

- Moisture-resistant diaper creams

Treatment for oral thrush

- Antifungal antibiotic that can be applied to skin or taken orally
- Topical cream for the mothers breast if her nipple is the cause of infection

Take preventative action - You can keep your baby yeast infection free by ensuring the following

- Change diapers regularly

- Keep the diaper area clean and dry

- Keep diapers off whenever possible

- Do not wash your babys skin with soap or other harsh cleaning products - Properly sanitize soothers and bottle tops by boiling them for approximately 10 minutes to avoid recurrence of oral thrush.

Dont worry about this being too childish, everyone should take the time to act like a kid now and then. Bring in some plastic coins to spread around the tables and make a golden yellow cake.

Guests sometimes surprise the soon-to-be fifty year old with their own surprise party. This can be intended to poke light fun at the guest of honors Over the Hill status. It's all in the Bag Baby - Finding The Perfect Diaper Bag

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:18 AM

By Jennifer Wasilewski

Having a baby means having to carry around more gear than seems humanly possible. With diapers, bibs, extra clothing, feeding accessories, toys, formula, and the millions of other things you may need while out with baby, youll need a more than your purse or pockets to be prepared. Here are some great diaper bag options to make sure you can carry everything youll possibly need for your little one.

  • Traditional Bag: The traditional diaper bag is the one that you most commonly see on the shoulders of new parents. They come in various sizes but are generally rather large. These bags are full of internal and external pockets and compartments to make sure you have everything organized.

Is It Right for You? - Traditional diaper bags are great for parents who are always on the go, have more than one child to transport often, or parents who seem to bring everything except the kitchen sink where ever they take their child.

  • Tote: A diaper bag in a tote style is smaller than a traditional diaper bag and often has far less pockets and compartments than your average bag. Instead of the single handle that often accompanies a traditional bag, the tote has two handles (long or short depending on your preference) and is fashioned in a similar manner to a womans purse.

Is It Right For You?- Totes are often the fashionable counterpart of the traditional diaper bag. If fashion and style are important to you, then you may want to think about a diaper tote to help you take babies things with you wherever you go. They often come in different fabrics and patterns so you can choose something that matches your style.

  • Backpack: This diaper bag is much like the backpacks you carried to school. They have two straps that allow you to wear your diaper bag on your back allowing your hands freedom. Diaper back packs are general similar to the traditional diaper bag when it comes to the storage capacity. These bags are filled with compartments and pockets to help organize babys necessities.

Is it Right for You? - Back Pack diaper bags are a great for a new father. If youre a new father or if youre concerned about the willingness of your partner to carry a traditional diaper bag, this is an excellent solution. These bags are also a great idea if youre often in a situation where you need to have your hands free while traveling with your children. Since the bag is securely strapped to your bag, you have two hands to work with at all times.

  • Messenger Bag: The messenger diaper bag is a diaper bag that resembles the book bag of choice among college students. This bag is worn with the single long strap across the chest, allowing the bag to hand loosely at your side. Much like the backpack, the messenger diaper bag has a reasonable amount of storage and can be worn to keep your hands free.

Is it Right for You? - The messenger back is probably the newest edition to diaper bag style and can be a little more stylish than the book bag. Its also a great alternative for the new father to carry instead of the other options. Because the bags wait is not distributed on the back, it may be easier t o carry or more comfortable for those who have back problems.

Gift Guide for New Babies (and their parents)

Even people who donโt enjoy shopping often like buying baby gifts. Miniature-sized booties, mittens, and outfits are adorable! But, how practical are they? Here is one new momโs perspective on practical doโs and donโts for your next baby shower event.

If youโre buying clothes:

a) Pay attention to how they come off. There will inevitably be many, many diaper changes. The outfit is a lot more likely to get good mileage if the nervous new parents donโt have to go wriggle a fragile little head in and out of cute clothes ten times a day. Robes, gowns, kimonos, and front snap tees are great. Practical doesnโt have to mean boring โ there are a lot of stylish options out there!

b) Be mindful of the weather. Donโt get summery clothes in the 0-3 month size if the baby is born in the dead of winter. Chances are, as cute as they may be, the baby will outgrow them long before he or she gets a chance to wear them. If itโs rainy, rain gear will be very much appreciated to protect the delicate newborn.

c) Size matters. Newborn clothes only fit for a short time unless the baby is particularly small or a preemie. So, donโt buy too many of the wee sizes. Baby showers often result in too many little clothes, and by the time the baby is six months old, the parents are rushing to buy new ones. A nice gift may be a range of sizes for the babyโs first year.

If youโre looking for non-clothing options:

a) A keepsake. The baby wonโt be able to see what you got for quite some time, and chances are that by then, it will have been passed on to someone else. So, get something special for the baby that he or she can uncover years later, and maybe even pass on to their children some day. If the baby is someone close, give something from your own childhood with a hand-written note. A sterling silver item is also a great choice. Wishwrap has some fun options like a silver spoon, silver rattle, or silver teddy bank. A blanket or quilt, like Wishwrapโs Cuddly Baby Blanket, is another precious gift with great longevity โ just make sure itโs machine washable! A cashmere baby blanket may be luxurious, but itโs totally impractical.

b) An offbeat theme gift. A swimsuit and water toys could be a great gift for a new baby. A little library that grows with the baby is another fun option. This might include books and CDs that the baby can enjoy as he or she gets older.

c) A โnon-thingโ. New parents are inundated with necessary โthingsโ that come with a new baby. A car seat, crib, new clothes, diapers, toys, etc., etc. The list can be quite daunting. Give a gift that will โdisappearโ after itโs used. Meals that can be frozen for last-minute use are a great help. If the baby will be in cloth diapers, a local diaper service is a great gift. Offer your time to watch the baby so that the parents can sneak out for a short film or even a nice long walk. Housecleaning with a chemical-free service or a massage for the new mom may be other great gifts that will ultimately benefit the baby and the parents!

d) Money. New babies are expensive. As they get older, they get more and more so. Cash is always a welcome gift. If you give cold, hard cash, make it thoughtful with a hand-written note that designates it for a specific purpose. Or, give a gift certificate to Wishwrap with a personalized wish from you. You can always get the baby a gift of stocks or bonds, or open a College Savings account for the baby. Many states have tax-free plans for education.

New babies are precious. Celebrate their arrival with a special gift thatโs thoughtful and meaningful. Use the tips above, and be sure that your gift will be something thatโs cherished by the parents too.

Diaper Rash IS A PAIN

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:17 AM

By Julie Johnson

For some babies, diaper rash isnt a problem. For others, diaper rash can be mild and for others severe. For whatever reason, it is important that your baby doesnt suffer. Here are a few reasons why babies get rashes.

*A milk allergy either from formula or the breast feeding mothers diet

*An allergy to detergent

*A diaper that stays on too long or is not sufficiently absorbent

*Antibiotics

*Thrush or a yeast infection

My second child had a bleeding rash off and on for 2-3 years. The one product that helped in this severe case was a skin paste called ILEX. This was a miracle for my sons comfort, as well as his mothers. My other son rarely had a diaper rash and when he did, a popular diaper rash cream was applied and within a few days the rash was gone.

SOME HELPFUL TIPS:

If baby's bottom appears red and painful, avoid using scented wipies to clean. The wipie solution stings the bottom and baby will cry. I have used wipies only after washing them in warm water and rinsing out the solution. This helps but it isnt perfect. Dont ever wipe a sore bottom. Wiping will cause more pain. Use warm water and gently dab to clean. For brave parents, airing out the affected area works wonders as well.

TREAT OR PREVENT:

First find out the reason behind the diaper rash. Go see your pediatrician. You can talk to a lactation consultant as well if you are suspecting it is thrush or a milk allergy.

Another option is preventative care. Wouldnt something natural and organic on the babys bottom be nice? There are special soaps with no additives. There are wonderful ointments that help protect your little one's bottom as well. Visit www.birth-angel.com for soap and ointment to help soothe and protect your babys delicate bottom. Baby will thank you. Happy baby, happy parents.

Four Common Childhood Skin Conditions - What You Need to Know

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:27 AM

By Jodee Reid

A baby's skin is less resistant to bacteria and other harmful substances in the environment. Natural substances like sweating, dribbling and passing urine can be irritating to the skin causing rashes and redness. Although a baby is not usually dirty, it is necessary to cleanse and hydrate the skin to prevent such irritation.

A newborn baby's skin can be very dry and prone to peeling because the skins oil content at this stage is very low which may also contribute to minor outbreaks and common rashes. A baby's skin is also much thinner and more fragile than the skin of an adult so needs to be treated accordingly.

Below I have outlined four common childhood skin conditions;

1. Cradle Cap

A form of seborrhea dermatitis usually found on the scalp, face and sometimes on other areas of the body. Cradle cap is simply a build up of sweat and oil produced by overactive glands. The build up may cause the skin to become irritated and an overgrowth of yeast may occur. It is essential to shampoo the hair with a mild shampoo to prevent cradle cap from occurring.

2. Diaper Rash

Diaper rash may be the cause of either yeast or bacteria in the diaper area combined with excess moisture, chafing and rubbing and skin contact with faeces and urine.
To prevent diaper rash it is essential to cleanse the area at each diaper change. Leave the diaper off for a short time between changing and change the diaper more regularly if your baby is prone to rash.

3. Milia and Infant Acne

Pink or white spots on the face of a newborn baby are common due to the baby retaining some of its mother's hormones. These will usually disappear with time so it is best to leave them alone.

4. Eczema

Infantile eczema or atopic dermatitis is a genetically determined condition. The skin may be red, irritated and scaly. Eczema is usually found on the face, behind the ears and knees and in the neck and elbow creases. There can be a number of triggers for an eczema outbreak including; dry skin, stress, heat, allergens such as dust mites, pollen and per danger. It is essential to keep the skin clean, dry and hydrated. Keep the child's fingernails short to prevent scratching and possible infection. In the case of severe eczema and re-occurring eczema it is advisable to consult your doctor.
