Caring For Your Baby's Umbilical Cord

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Connie Limon

From the sixth week of pregnancy until birth there is an umbilical cord that connects the developing fetus to the mother through the placenta. It exists as a lifeline that supplies the developing fetus with oxygen, nutrition and a route for waste elimination while the fetus is within the womb.

At birth, the baby is able to breathe, eat, and void by itself. The umbilical cord is no longer necessary and is clamped and cut shortly after delivery.

The remaining cord after babys birth requires proper care to heal and drop off naturally. This occurs usually within 2 weeks after birth.

There are two conditions that will require prompt medical care. These are:

Umbilical granuloma: This is a persistent, yellow-green drainage from the belly button, no redness, warmth, swelling or tenderness of the surrounding skin is present. Fever will not usually be present. A small nodule of firm, pinkish-red tissue represents an umbilical granuloma. This condition can be treated successfully in the doctors office.

Patent urachus: Top of babys diaper continuously wet, or fluid leaking from the belly button could represent a rare condition where the normal connection between the fetal bladder and the umbilical cord has remained open after the birth of the baby. Call your doctor if you notice these symptoms.

Conditions that require immediate emergency room evaluation include:

Any redness, warmth, swelling, or tenderness in the skin around the belly button, or lots of discharge from it, especially if the discharge smells bad. This could be omphalitis, which is a potentially life-threatening infection of the umbilical stump and the surrounding area. This condition requires prompt evaluation and treatment in the hospital.

Umbilical cord treatment after birth:

During the first hour after delivery and usually following the babys first bath, the umbilical stump is treated with an antibiotic applied directly onto it, to decrease the chance for infection.

Twenty-four hours after delivery, the clamp can be removed from the stump. It is best to be sure this clamp is removed at the hospital before you take your baby home. If it is not removed at the hospital there is a chance the clamp can get stuck during home diaper changes and can pull on and injure the stump.

Umbilical cord treatment and self-care at home includes:

Little is required to care for the stump once you are home with the baby. Wipe the stump and the surrounding skin area with rubbing alcohol two to three times a day until the stump falls off. If you notice a small amount of yellowish ooze or even a drop of blood at this time, this is normal and no cause for concern.

Keep the area dry. This is very important and the reasons why you are not suppose to bathe the baby until later.

You can help with cord care by keeping the diaper rolled out and down (so the inside of the diaper is showing) to allow the stump to be exposed to the air keeping it dry. The rolled diaper will not trap the cord inside the diaper. If you roll the diaper in and down, it will place the plastic outer side of the diaper against the stomach and make the baby uncomfortable.

The cord usually falls off within the first 2 weeks. At this time, you might notice a small, pinkish area in the bottom of the belly button that will not look like the rest of the skin. This is normal and expected. Normal skin will grow over it. Once this occurs, it is safe to give your baby a bath.

There is no means of preventing granuloma, urachus and opmhalitis. Antibiotics can be given to prevent recurring bladder infections. The steps performed from moment the cord is cut with a sterile blade, to the antibiotic applied to prevent infection, to the need to keep the cord dry, are all precautions aimed at preventing the serious condition of omphalitis. If your baby develops any of the three conditions mentioned, once treated, all conditions have excellent outcomes.

Doctors Should Use Promotional Products Like Dentists Do - 5 Ideas How

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Valerie Harmon

I think doctors should give out promotional items like dentists do. We reveal more and pay more to a doctor than we do a dentist, and a little gift would do much to sweeten a doctor's office visit. Not only that, but a doctor's office is a business and the goals of better patient retention, increasing patient visits (the health maintenance type) and improving the health of a patient, can be accomplished with a well-orchestrated marketing plan.

Most doctors give out some freebies-but they tend to be prescription drug company samples, and that promotes a particular pill, not the doctor's services. A better marketing package would add the free pill sample to a bag with a brochure encouraging patient visits for health maintenance, like annual exams or vaccinations. Of course each brochure (and perhaps pill sample) should include a stamp or business card with the doctor's office information on it.

A good marketing plan would also add a memorable promotional item to the bag. Promotional products that show the doctor cares and that are inexpensive enough to be handed out liberally are ideal. Here are five suggestions:

1. Pill holders-Pills and vitamins get taken daily and so a logo on a pill holder gets noticed every day. Because of its daily visibility, this is one of the best promotional products a doctor could give.

2. First Aid Wallet-This promotion has a business card-like imprint space and its small size makes it very useful (it won't get thrown away). It has an Advil and antacid packet, three antiseptic towelettes, 4 bandages and a first aid cream packet and adhesive pad. Perfect for on-the-go first aid needs and the patient remembers the doctor when they're hurt.

3. Child I.D. Kit-This promotional product has an ink strip for fingerprinting, a place for vital information and a personal record-keeping folder all contained in wallet size. Memorable and caring, patients will keep it around.

4. Bandages in a Dispenser-only five bandages (like Band-Aids) are in these colorful dispensers, but its size makes it perfect for the purse or diaper bag. It's an inexpensive promotion that won't get thrown out until the bandages are gone.

5. Imprinted baby keys-I think this one is perfect for patients with babies. The logo is printed on a tag hooked onto toy baby keys. Babies like chewing on toy keys, and parents see the logo every day as baby plays. Great logo placement for family doctors.

These five promotional ideas are only a few out of the hundreds of promotions doctors could feel good about giving to their patients. Patients would love to have any of these small gifts in a goodie bag, and doctors can show they care while promoting their business at the same time.

Baby Shower Centerpieces - The Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Dana Prince

Diaper cakes look like a cake but are a useful baby shower gift. They are generally a gift consisting mostly of newborn sized diapers but can also be filled with other useful gifts as well that make up the structure of the diaper cake as well as act as decorations.

The idea is to give this as a decorative gift and the Mom-to-be will disassemble it at home and use the items that make up the multiple levels of tiers.

Centerpiece Design Ideas

Use various items in the cake including:

  • receiving blankets

  • rattles

  • bibs

  • face cloths

  • stuffed animals

  • personalized items

  • And whatever else you can think of that looks great and fits in. Don't forget to take pictures!

Use coloured ribbons to hold it together or if you're feeling extra creative, use thin receiving blankets that can be wound like ribbons to hold the diapers in place and you can use multiple layers. For diapers you can either use disposables or cloth diapers; they both work well and you can integrate other folded items in between. A stuffed animal or bottles can be the crowning glory and if you choose an animal, it can even wear a newborn baby outfit as part of the gift. The stuffed animal can be a great item of personalization as well with a cross stitched bib around its neck.

    Baby Shower Decor

Diaper cakes make a great centerpiece for the table. Of course, you'll probably want to have a real edible cake as well to celebrate the occasion but the tiers of diapers can work great as a centerpiece. This makes a great gift from the hostess who is holding the party for the Mom-to-Be as it works well for the party decor as well as serving double-duty as a gift as well.

You can have a themed cake that works with the colours for the baby's nursery if you like or if the gender of the baby is known, the cake can be the appropriate pink or blue.

    Where to Get Diaper Cakes

If you're not the diy type, you can buy a diaper cake from many online sources but there are a number of videos, e-books and tutorials online that you can use to help you come up with ideas for different designs as well as directions on how to make one.

Easy Directions for Making a Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

    By Tim Bock

Betty Crocker may not be needed for this project but a diaper cake makes a wonderful addition to any baby shower.

You will start with the ingredients and put the cake together in a short amount of time. The diaper cake makes a perfect centerpiece and can be made ahead of time.

You will need about 50 medium disposable diapers and a 16 disposable cardboard platter. Thin rubber bands will be needed and 5-6 feet of ผ to ฝ ribbon plus 8-10 feet of 1 wide ribbon. Also purchase a large baby bottle, small candies to fill the bottle, double sided adhesive tape and small baby items like booties, nail clippers, pacifiers, rattles, a brush and comb, etc.

Roll the diapers into tight rolls and secure with the rubber bands. You will use the diapers to make three layers. Begin with the baby bottle filled with the candies and place it into the middle of 5-6 diapers. Tie this all together with the 1 ribbon.

Make the second tier using about 15 diapers. Tie this layer together with the narrower ribbon. For the third tier you will need approximately 27 diapers. Make the center first and tie it together. Place more diapers around this circle and tie. Finish this layer by adding a third row of diapers around the second circle and tie with the narrow ribbon.

Put pieces of the tape on the platter and place the first layer on the platter. Add more pieces of tape and add the next layer. Finish with the third layer. Tuck the baby items around the outside of the cake by sliding them under the ribbon. Finish the cake by tying the 1 ribbon around each layer.

A diaper cake is a creative way to make a baby shower special.

How to Make an Elegant Diaper Cake

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

    By Sophia Ton

It is easy to make a diaper cake today. There are many sources which will teach you how to make an elegant diaper cake it will depend on you whether you have the inclination to make it yourself or to buy it. There are many websites which will teach you to make a diaper cake. There are even more websites which will teach you how to make an elegant diaper cake.

How Does a Normal Diaper Cake Differ From an Elegant Diaper Cake?

A normal diaper cake will be made of the same ingredients as an elegant diaper cake. There will be diapers, there will lovely gifts, and there would be a lot of other lovely things that one would like to be able to give to the baby and the would-be-mother. The way you combine it to make the cake, will decide whether it is just a simple cake, or an elaborately done elegant diaper cake.

The elegant diaper cake will have all the things that a simple cake will have, but they will be put together in a very fashionable way so it will look very impressive from the first glance. Usually, the diaper cakes done at home are funnier. Those which are bought are elegant because they have to impress the buyer. Either way, the diaper cake is a great thing to gift a person during a baby shower party.

This is because it is made of many useful things for the baby, and it usually looks extremely funny to any person who lays its eyes on it. In this way you provide both an entertainment tool for the party, as well as a very practical gift to the would-be-mother. There would be some 50 odd diapers which make the cake. Other than that they would be a lot of other gifts that the baby would be profited from.

This tradition of giving a diaper cake started from the need of combining practicality with fun. The person, who gifts such a cake, will have to balance the practical part of a gift with the fun part. The party will definitely be livelier with an elegant diaper cake around. The best suggestion would be to have the gifts tucked in very nicely on the cake with the help of transparent tape. Ensure that you fix the toys and other items carefully, so after they open it up to use the gifts and disentangle it, the recipient of the cake could be able to use as many as possible items.

10 Items of the Well-Stocked Diaper Bag

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

    By Karen Bianchi

Does your diaper bag have everything you need in it? Of course, you have the basic items: diapers, wipes, bottles, etc. But are you equipped for any "baby situation" that could possibly arise? It may seem like a lot of gear, but if you bring along the following baby paraphernalia when you head out, youll be ready for just about anything.

    1. Diapers-

Bring more than you think youll need. Even if your babys body works like clockwork, today could be the day when everything changes. Extra supplies also come in handy if your outing keeps you out longer than you had planned.

    2. Baby Wipes-

Same goes for the wipes. Theyre also great for cleaning spit-up off of little hands, folds of the neck and yourself.

    3. Change of Clothes For Baby-

Make sure this is a complete change of clothes, including extra socks if the outfit requires. There is no such thing as a leak-proof diaper. Sometimes the mess can travel further than you can imagine.

    4. Spare Shirt For Yourself-

There arent many moments more uncomfortable than walking around wearing your babys lunch or reeking of sour baby odors.

    5. 2-Quart Sized Resealable Plastic Bags-

These are perfect for storing soiled clothing until you get home.

    6. Extra Food-

Pack one more feeding than you think youll need. If today is the day your baby decides to increase his or her food intake, or, once again, if you are out longer than you planned, you'll want to be prepared with enough food.

    7. Plastic Changing Pad-

Youll always have a clean place to lay your baby for diaper and clothing changes if you bring this along. Many times, these come with the diaper bag.

    8. Blanket or Jacket-

If the weather becomes cooler while youre out and youre not prepared, you may be heading home sooner than youd like. Also, some malls and grocery stores maintain cooler temperatures than you may have dressed your baby for.

    9. Extra Pacifier-

Store one in a plastic sandwich bag. If one drops on the floor or mysteriously disappears, as pacifiers are wont to do, itll be no big deal.

    10. Pediatricians Phone Number-

Hopefully, youll never need to call your babys doctor while youre away from home. But if you do, youll be glad you have it.

    Natural Diaper Rash Remedies

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

    By Carrie Lauth

Ouch! Few things are more uncomfortable than baby's diaper rash. Almost all babies have at least one case of rash during their diapering years. Using a natural remedy may be best for baby's delicate diaper area. Here are a few tips:

    Let baby air out

Taking off the diaper and allowing baby to lie naked on a towel or blanket as often as possible may clear up rash. Or pin on a cloth diaper loosely so air can circulate.

Clean baby with water and cloth wipes

Commercial baby wipes contain chemicals and perfumes that can irritate baby's skin, predisposing him to rash or making an existing one worse. Cleaning baby with water and cloth wipes (or using a mild natural soapy solution for messy changes) is preferable.

Use natural detergents for diaper laundry

Residues left in commercial detergents may be harsh, drying baby's skin. Switch to a natural detergent and do a double rinse.

    Change baby frequently

For a time, go on hyper alert and change baby's diaper quickly each time it gets soiled. Urine and fecal matter can burn baby's skin and cause painful rash. This is especially true as baby begins eating solid foods. Breastfed babies generally have fewer episodes of rash. If you're bottlefeeding and baby's rash is persistent, talk to your Pediatrician about changing the formula.

    Try a diaper change
In addition to changing baby frequently, try using a different kind of diaper altogether. Some babies who experienced chronic rash with disposables will do much better with cloth diapers. Or at least switch to perfume free, natural disposables like the ones made by Seventh Generation, Tushies, MotherNature or Nature Boy & Girl.

    Treat thrush (yeast infection)

Thrush is a common cause of diaper rash. Following the above tips will help, but if it persists, talk to your Pediatrician. S/he may recommend an antifungal medication safe for baby. You can also try Gentian Violet, available at many drugstores. Ask your Doctor for recommendations. A baking soda wash (one Tablespoon dissolved in a half cup of water) may help also. Pat it on baby's bum with cotton balls after each change.

Acidophilus is safe for babies and can help combat yeast, especially a rash that may appear after baby has taken antibiotics. Ask a health care provider to recommend a brand and dose.

    Use a bottom balm

Try a diaper rash cream made from natural ingredients to help form a barrier, keeping waste away from baby's skin. Look for calendula, Vitamin E and evening primrose oil in the list of ingredients. Burt's Bees and Weleda are excellent brands.

    Talk to your Doctor

Persistent rash (especially if it's a "bulls eye" around the baby's bottom) can be a symptom of food allergy. Your Doctor may recommend an elimination diet to help you find the culprit. Often babies outgrow their sensitivities at around age 3 and you might be able to reintroduce the food then.

Baby Care Tips For Your Newborn Baby

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

    By Brooke Schuman

Before I was a mom I had never changed a diaper or had even held
a newborn baby in my life. I never really was the babysitting
type. I had no clue what I was doing, I needed some major help.
So now that I am a mom I would like to share some things that I
have learned that I didn't know but wished someone would have
told me. Of course the nurses in the hospital showed me what to
do, but I always wished I could have been more prepared. So here
are some baby care tips, to care for your newborn baby.

-A bath two to three times a week is all the baby needs until
he/she can crawl around and get dirty. Of course you will want
to give sponge baths after meals and after diaper changes to
keep the baby clean. Giving baby baths to often can result in
    dry irritated skin.

-Don't ever leave baby alone in the bath for even a second, be
in arms reach of baby at all times. Make sure you have
everything you need with you when you are giving baby a bath so
you don't need to leave for any reason, the phone, a towel,
shampoo are just a few items that you definitely will need when
    giving baby a bath.

-The best way to avoid diaper rash and irritation is to change
the diaper before or after every feeding and as soon as possible
after each bowel movement. Sitting in a dirty diaper for even a
little while causes irritation. Use a diaper rash ointment
after every diaper change to avoid diaper rash.

-Diapers need to fit snugly as to avoid leaks but not so tight
that the diapers can cause skin irritation around the thighs and
    stomach areas.

-On boys aim the penis downward as the diaper is being put on.
This minimizes leaks and wet pajamas and undershirts.

-Some babies love to be swaddled others hate it. If your baby
hates to be swaddled let his/her arms out and you can still
comfort your little one but he/she can feel less restricted.

-When picking baby up lift gently, slowly and close to your body
this makes baby feel more secure. Always make sure your arm or
    hand is supporting baby's neck.

-Don't use cotton swabs to clean out babies ears. Use wash
clothes to clean in and around babies ear.

-Shampooing your babies hair only needs to be done two or three
times a week. Unless there is a problem with cradle cap that
requires you to shampoo more. Always put cotton or cover your
babies ears with your hands as to minimize the amount of water
that gets in his/her little ears. This can cause ear infections.

Get some sleep and rest when your child is resting.

    Buying Adult Diapers

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

    By Steve Valentino

Incontinence suffers have many options if they need to buy adult diapers. Disposable adult diapers are available at all discount stores and pharmacies. Many of these stores also carry cloth adult diapers and the plastic pant covers. It is usually easier, however, to mail order or order online the cloth diapers from specialty shops.

Some incontinent people are embarrassed about buying adult diapers. Western society has always attached a social stigma to the loss of bladder control and linked it to a general loss of bodily control in old age. Although most of us are aware that incontinence is a sign of an underlying medical issue, the stigma remains. For those who are embarrassed to buy adult diapers from a retail store, online ordering may be a wonderful alternative.

You can buy adult diapers from a variety of online sources. A simple Google search will yield hundreds, if not thousands of results. Nearly all manufacturers of disposable diapers offer the same quality, although users will undoubtedly have their favorite brand that they claim has superior absorption.

When you first decide to buy adult diapers, keep in mind that you need a combination of key components to be a satisfied customer. Firstly, if you choose a disposable diaper, ask your doctor what degree of absorption you need. If you only have mild-to-moderate incontinence, you may not need a highly absorptive diaper. The adult diapers you buy should fit snugly without being too tight or uncomfortable. The diaper should have elastic legs that can further prevent leakage problems.

Your doctor may be able to recommend a good place to buy adult diapers. You can certainly purchase them at discount retailers and medical shops, or you can choose to discretely purchase them from online retailers. If you decide to use cloth diapers and plastic covers, you will either need to purchase them online, through mail order or a specialty shop, as most American retailers do not carry the cloth version of the adult diaper.

    Choosing Diapers for Your Baby

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Sandra Rathbun

Do you know that your baby is likely to spend around 1000 days in diapers, and might require at least 5,000 diaper changes all this while?

Therefore, what you choose for your baby is going to affect her skin, comfort, and health. However, your selection is likely to be influenced by budgetary considerations. While cloth diapers are inexpensive and easy to use, disposable diapers cannot be reused and are costlier.

Disposable diapers were introduced in early 60's, and they changed the entire industry scenario thereafter. The disposable diapers used waterproof plastic layer outside the diaper, and a pad treated with absorbent chemicals along with an inner liner. The use of chemicals, such as Sodium polyacrylate ensures that diaper absorbs more fluid while its upper surface remains dry. However, the exposure to such chemicals also increases the risk of developing allergic reactions. If inhaled, the small amount of Sodium polyacrylate can also lead to death.

Besides the use of harmful chemicals, there is a growing concern on the use of disposable diapers. This is because nearly 5 million tons of natural body excrement is getting added everyday via disposables, which is likely to have scores of intestinal viruses. This is also contaminating the groundwater all across the globe.

The disposable diapers are not biodegradable as 30 percent of material used in making these diapers is plastic. As more and more people are getting environment conscious, the popularity and demand for cloth diapers for babies is also growing. Not only cloth diapers are simple to use and less complicated, but they are also environment-friendly.

Many people argue that disposable diapers augment the risk of diaper rash. In fact, there are many misconceptions related to diaper rash. Remember, the diaper rash can occur with the use of any type of diaper- cloth or disposable. Diaper rash would surely make your child miserable. Many people say that diaper rash is abnormal, and it indicates that the baby is allergic to certain types of foods or drinks. But, developing diaper rash is completely natural. But, the good news is that you can always control the occurrence of diaper rash. But, you first need to understand what causes diaper rash. As the baby's skin is very sensitive, the exposure to chemical and moisture caused by body's excrement such as urine can make it more sensitive. However, there are many ways to prevent or minimize diaper rash. You should change your baby's diapers more often, and try changing them once in every 2 hours in newborns and 3-4 hours in children above 1 year of age. If you are using disposable diapers, try using different brands. Changing different brands of diapers may allow you find the best one which suits your baby in terms of size and fitting. This would cause less wetting, and thus less diaper rash.

In case your baby develops diaper rash, you can use Petroleum ointment, which is a very good ointment for daily use. You can also use White zinc oxide, which is a thicker ointment, which is ideal for babies, who are more prone to develop diaper rash.

Sandra Rathbun is a parent of three beautiful babies and the owner of Baby, a blog she regularly writes on about her experiences with free baby samples.

    Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Marilyn Christian

Babies have very sensitive skin, they can easily get rashes in their vulnerable parts. This might be caused by the weather change. But some babies have diaper rash from other causes. And most parents are annoyed when they notice this skin condition in their babies. They would like to know right away what is the best solution for this problem and also how to prevent it from happening in the future.

HOW TO DEAL WITH DIAPER RASH

First of all, to avoid diaper rash you need to change a baby's diapers frequently so that the old diaper will not irritate the skin. You have to check it before feeding and after, or in between feeding. And never forget to put diaper ointment on during every change. But if the rashes are there already, you have to buy a diaper ointment that can cure rashes. The best ointments for rashes that we've found are mild formulations that use calendula cream, and the next best are ones that use zinc.

The most popular two products (the ones you'll find in most baby sections of your local drug store) do not contain calendula cream. You have to really look for it or ask your pharmacist to order it. Calendula cream works by gently and naturally aiding in skin regeneration. (It works for irritated adult skin too.) Always remember that whenever you change the diaper be sure that you put thick ointment in it for fast recovery.

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR BABY NEEDS HELP

It is easy to tell if the baby needs help. Usually, they are cranky and fussy. And that makes the babysitter become alert; baby will be cranky and fussy if they are starving, not feeling well, or they have gas pains and wet diapers. Any attentive parent will sense that something is wrong. It's up to you, the parent, to discover what the problem is. In some cases it will be diaper rash. A redness indicates this is the problem.

HOW TO SELECT THE BEST PRODUCT

Selecting the best product is done by looking at the ingredients. It is very important that ointment have good ingredients in it so that it will not be harmful for the baby. We advise parents to read ingredients on ointments and food. Even if you don't do it for yourself, do it for your baby. They are more susceptible to injury by harmful ingredients. Manufacturers list ingredients so that you can judge whether the product is worth your money. If it has calendula cream it will do a baby's diaper rash a world of good.

Don't Confuse Your Baby's Yeast Infections With Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Rich Fuller

Yeast infections that affect a babys diaper area not the same thing as diaper rash. Unfortunately, many well meaning parents use regular diaper cream and baby powder on the yeast infection and this will do nothing to cure it.

A yeast infection is different from a diaper rash in that it appears as a flat, red rash with scalloped edges that have several tiny rashes around it. A yeast infection rash may extend along the pubic area and onto the lower part of the babys abdomen.

The yeast infections that affect babies are called Candidas albicans, which is the most common cause of all types of yeast infections. A pediatrician can determine whether a rash on the groin or a thrush in the mouth of babies is a yeast infection. To get a definite diagnosis the doctor may examine the scrapings of a yeast infection under a microscope.

Babies who are on antibiotics or who are being breastfed by mothers who are taking antibiotics are at higher risk for yeast infections. Thats because antibiotics kill the good bacteria in the body that keep yeast in check. Without these bacteria around, yeast and grow more abundantly.

While applying diaper cream may bring your baby temporary relief from the itching and soreness it will not heal the infection. Without proper treatment, a yeast infection in the babys diaper area will get progressively worse.

Anti-fungal medications are the only types of medicine that can get rid of yeast infections. Some pediatricians might write a prescription for Nystatin while others may recommend and over the counter medicine like Lotrim AF to treat the diaper yeast infection.

Using antifungal cream, soaking the baby in warm water two times a day and frequent diaper changes will usually clear up a yeast infection within a few days. While you are treating the yeast infection make sure that your babys diapers are loose enough to let air in. When changing your childs diapers, make sure the skin on his buttocks and groin area is clean and dry.

Some holistic medical practitioners advocate the use of a diaper cream containing tea tree oil to help clear yeast infections in the diaper area. Others recommend using aloe or pressing damp chamomile teabags directly on the babys rash. If the yeast persists for more than a week or if your baby has fever or chills you should consult with your pediatrician.

Yeast infections in babys can occur despite our best efforts. However, frequent diaper changes can decrease the chances of an infection occurring. Children with yeast infections in the diaper area should not be excluded from daycare because these types of infections are not contagious.

If your baby recently had thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth), her or she may end up with a yeast infection in the diaper area, too. Thats because yeast passes through your babys digestive system when he eats and winds up in his stool, which eventually lands in his diaper right next to his warm, damp skin. Yeast thrives in warm, damp environments.

The Basics of Cool Baby Shower Themes

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Tim Bock

This article will discuss several affordable and cool baby shower themes. You can give a baby shower anytime during the pregnancy or even after the baby is born, though it is customarily given during the last couple of months of the pregnancy.

One of the most affordable and cool baby shower themes is a garden tea party. This cool baby shower theme can be decorated according to the babys gender; in pink, blues or yellows and greens. To pull of this simple and elegant theme, all you need is some fresh flower centerpieces, pretty or fancy teapots, plates and cups (these can be borrowed from a relative or friend). Cover the tables with fancy tablecloths and use formal dinnerware. Start the shower with offering the guests an assortment of different teas and scones. You can also serve fresh fruit, different salads, croissants and cold cuts, quiches and other light fare.

Another cool baby shower theme is the book party baby shower, where guests are asked to give their favorite childhood books instead of gifts and cards to the baby-to-be. A sweet idea is to have each guest write about why their favorite book has special meaning in the front cover. You can also decorate according to different story themes or the mother-to-bes favorite story. This cool baby shower them can also be co-ed.

A cool baby shower theme for a second or third time mother-to-be, who already has the essentials, is a diaper party. Have the guests bring packages of diapers or wipes in lieu of gifts and make sure that they buy several different sizes, you really dont want to have 10 packages of newborn size diapers that the baby will outgrown before wearing them all.

    Packing Your Diaper Bag

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Kim Prissel

While sometimes it feels like your diaper bag outweighs your baby, it is essential to pack necessary items for your outgoing trip. Leaving the house with the right items will help you accomplish the things you need to do away from the house with minimal difficulty.

Depending on the length of time you will be away from home determines how much you will need to pack. Having a roomy, expandable bag is the first step. Packing it in an organized manner is the next step. Being able to find an item in the bag with one hand can make a diaper change go much more smoothly. I've listed some items to pack in your diaper bag.

Obviously, depending on the age of your child, this list will decrease:

Quick trip to the store with your baby:

      2 diapers

      Small packet of baby wipes

      Changing pad

      Pacifier, if used

      Packet of crackers or cookie

      Bottle, formula

      Bib

Small toy that will clip onto shopping cart.

Day trip or day with sitter, add:

      Information card

      More diapers

Second small packet of baby wipes

      Changing pad

      Baby food, spoon

      Bottles, formula

      Bibs

      Small hand-held toys

      Blanket to nap on.

      Spare change of clothing

      Spare pacifier, if used

Plastic zipper bags for transporting dirty items home.

    Week with sitter:
Pack this into a bag that stays with the sitter all week:

      Diapers

      Large packet of baby wipes

      Diaper cream for rashes

      Spare changes of clothing

      Baby food, spoons, bibs

      Bottles, formula

      Toys

      Blankets

    Additional items at parent's discretion:

      Acetaminophen

      Gas Drops

      Teething rings

      Teething liquid

When your baby has a regular sitter for the week, it is much easier to only transport soiled items home each day. It is also helpful to have your sitter write down questions or events that occur during the day (such as feeding and nap times) and collect the slip with your baby. Often times, pick up time can be hurried or distracted and things may be forgotten. This way Mom or Dad have time to answer questions, check out small injuries that may have occurred, and celebrate the new things that have happened that day.

Your "Information Card" should have the following items listed:

      Emergency phone numbers, preferred hospital

Work, home and cell phone numbers

      Allergies

      Medications given and dosages

    Optional:

Secondary phone numbers (grandparents, or friends)

      Insurance information

      Blood type

Keep your Information Card in a sandwich-size plastic bag so it remains legible. Anytime the information changes, update your card. This card is invaluable during emergencies.

Forethought when planning a trip away from home, no matter how long it will be, can make for an easier day for you and your baby. It also gives peace of mind for you and your sitter when leaving your child for the day. With your sitter prepared for any occasion, your workday will have less phone calls, less worry, and more productivity.

We will provide some information about traditional decorations as well as decorations you can make!DIAPER CAKESFor the table where you will have the food and beverages set up, you want to create something festive. Although there are many great ideas, one of the most popular is the diaper cake. You can learn to make your own diaper cake centerpiece or purchase one online.Since this cake is constructed of baby diapers, these would be presented to the expectant mother after the baby shower. This centerpiece is actually very beautiful, as you can see in the photograph and in most cases, very affordable, especially considering that they are fully functional. There are many different variations of diaper cakes so you can be as creative as you like. If you want to try making the centerpiece on your own, simply following these instructions:40 small diapers

2 baby towels or small receiving blankets

    1 burp rag

    1 baby bottle

    Rubber bands or scotch tape

    3 diaper pins

    1 cardboard cake plate

1 roll of colored curling ribbon

1 cake topper (toys, stuffed animals, flowers, etc)

Various baby items for decoration such as miniature powder or shampoo, rattle, brush, teething ring, etcFor the bottom layer of the cake, roll the diapers lengthwise around the baby bottle, continuing to roll the actual diapers around themselves until 20 of the diapers have been used. Then, with the rubber bands or tape, secure them so they remain firmly in place. For the second layer, you would use 10 or 15 of the diapers depending on how thick you want it and do the same for the top layer using the remaining diapers (usually around five). Next, fold one of the receiving blankets so it is the same width as the bottom layer and then wrap it around the diapers, covering them. Do the same thing for the middle layer with the other blanket and then for the top layer, use the burp cloth. After each has been wrapped around, secure them with a couple of safety pins. You will then take the curling ribbon, choosing colors to match the sex of the baby or theme of the party, wrapping it around each of the three layers. Be sure to leave about four inches on each to curl. To finish the cake, use your cake topper on the top and then place smaller baby items around for decoration.Keep in mind that you can make a couple smaller diaper cakes using 20 diapers for the entire cake or one really, large one with 65 diapers. If you prefer to buy the diaper cake, the price will range on average between $30 and $60.ฉ2004

For the New Mom - Diaper Bag Essentials

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Terrie Cogswell

When it becomes time that you can take your little bundle of joy out and around the town, or even to visit with friends and relatives; it's good to know some essential basics. Do you know the essentials of what should go in the diaper bag?

I have devised a small checklist of the most important items that should be carried with you and baby at all times. Some of these items may sound weird or unnecessary at the time, but believe me when I tell you, the oddest things can come in very handy when the need arises.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a good-sized diaper bag, not some small as a purse or even a large purse. Inside the diaper bag, you should have:

Diapers- (including a few extra than you think you will or may need).

Baby wipes- (make sure they are baby wipes and not just wet wipes. Baby wipes are larger, softer, and gentler on the baby).

Rash ointment- (rashes can pop up at any time out of the clear blue. It is always better to have the necessary remedy on hand, instead of waiting until a later time).

A medicine bag- (These can be purchased with some of the essentials already within them, or you can make your own. Just use a quart sized zipper bag and fill with these items: Baby Tylenol, Nail clippers, a thermometer, Nose syringe, medicine dropper, and travel size lotion and Vaseline).

Extra clothing- (It is always best to take along at least two more sets than you think you will need. Remember, it is always better to be over prepared than under prepared).

One or two extra bottles- If you are bottle-feeding make sure you have enough with you, with an extra one to spare. After all, you never know when you might just be out a little longer than planned).

Also pack within the diaper bag, cloths for burping. I found cloth diapers to be wonderful, because they can be used for more than one purpose. Cloth diapers are also great as a makeshift changing pad, placing them under the baby so as not to soil any surrounding areas. The cloth diapers make excellent burping cloths to put over your shoulder, because they absorb more liquid than a receiving blanket, and can also come in handy for strange spills or yucky happenings that can arise.

An added hint- (Keeping a couple of extra quart sized zipper bags in the bag can also come in quite handy in many ways. These bags can hold soiled diapers, if you have nowhere to dispose of one. They can also hold soiled clothing and burping cloths, so as not to return them directly to the clean items in the diaper bag).

How to Start a Diaper Cake Business - And Make Money Doing It

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Myla Madson

The great thing about starting a diaper cake business is the fact that you will always have customers and low cost word of mouth is your best advertising medium.

There are, on average, 10,657 babies born each day in the United States. That's nearly four million births annually and if anything, those numbers will continue to increase each year.

Diapers and formula are the two largest material expenses when raising a child for the first three years of that child's life. A mother will go through more than 3,500 diapers a year at a cost of nearly $2000 by the time your little one is potty trained. Diapers are a welcome gift to most mothers.

As long as there are babies, there will be the need for diapers. Our diaper cake business model certainly has a demand that is expecting to continue to increase and that is an important thing to consider when starting any business.

There is no accurate estimate on the money Americans spend on baby showers but it is A LOT!! This is a monumental time in a woman's life and she wants this to be a memory that will last a lifetime. So, we now add emotion to our business model which is another positive.

There is a start up cost to this business in the form of materials, but you can work out of your home, use low cost word of mouth advertising methods, buy in bulk and take advantage of the many tax deductions available for a home based business.

Word of mouth advertising is basically all I use to sell my diaper cakes. I donated ten cakes to friends I knew who were either having a baby shower themselves or were attending one in the near future. You cannot believe the response these unique gifts get and everyone wants to either know where to get one or how they can make one.

A simple website with pictures of your cakes and how they can be purchased is really all the advertising you may ever need to earn a lot of extra income. Combine this with other unique baby gifts and needs and you can earn a very good living where the sky truly is the limit!

If you want to be the envy of every girl in the room at your next baby shower, or just want to make money selling these unique gifts, please go to my website to watch a basic diaper cake instructional video and to get more information on this fun and lucrative business opportunity. Tips For Curing An Infant's Yeast Infection

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 2:55 AM

    By Emily Omay

Yeast infections not only attack men and women, but also children. In fact, infants generally develop thrush or yeast infection in the mouth, and seldom anywhere else in the body.

Parents usually consider this thrush to be some misconception in the development of the child. However this is far from the truth as it is very much possible for a child too to suffer from an overgrowth of Candida, as is an adult. This yeast infection can occur anywhere in the body, basically where there is a warm and wet environment.

A wet diaper is the perfect breeding place for a yeast infection

It is basically the diaper area that is most susceptible to yeast infections as this area is not only wet, but is also heated up with the heat of the body. So to help control this discomfort in the toddler, it is better to keep the baby as clean and as dry as possible with frequent changing of diapers. This is very important during the summer months when there is increased heat because of climatic conditions.

Of course, between male and female babies, it is the baby girl that is more susceptible to yeast e infections, as are women and girls. This is because females havmore folds in the body where Candida thrives in and of course because of the diapers.

Boys are susceptible to yeast infections only because of diapers. So basically, make it a point to change diapers as soon as possible for the longer the diaper rubs against the skin, the higher is the possibility of a y east infection.

Besides keeping the baby as clean and dry as possible to control Candida overgrowth, there are other steps that can be used for preventing and curing infant yeast infection. Another common reason that triggers a yeast infection is an antibiotic regimen.

Avoid unnecessary antibiotics to prevent yeast infections

This is because antibiotics basically kill the natural bacterial flora found in the body, which is responsible for containing Candida. So unnecessary antibiotics in the body only leads to unnecessary killing of this necessary flora.

Once the child suffers from thrush, there is the possibility of the infant yeast infection spreading to other areas like the genital area. This is because Candida tends to pass through the digestive tract, to accumulate at the excretion site.

Approach the doctor at the first signs of a yeast infection

Of course, in addition to all this, an untreated diaper rash leads to an overgrowth of Candida; so don't just sit there thinking that the diaper rash will disappear on its own. Make sure you visit the doctor, and treat the rash in such a way that it is not exacerbated by itching and burning of an infant yeast infection.

Once you recognize the tell tale signs of a yeast infection in the baby, seek advice from the child's physician as it is always better to control the condition in the start, than when it becomes worse.

    The Honey Do List

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:10 AM

    By Joanne Robbins

Every person in the world at one time or another has a "honey do" list stuck to the refrigerator or lying on the counter. Every person accumulates chores and things that need to be done around the home or with automobiles. But, not everybody has a "honey" to help with the "honey do" list. What then?

Are you single? Are you a single parent? Do you live in an apartment? Perhaps you are lucky if you live in an apartment where there is a custodian/handyman to take care of the stuff that happens while you go about the business of living. If the commode floods over because your toddler flushed the babys' diaper ... call the Super. When the smoke alarms are hard-wired into the ceiling and screaming while the chicken is roasting ... call the Super. You are indeed a lucky person.

Recently the garage door wouldn't raise more than halfway and at the time it was about 25 below zero with wind chill and two feet of snow on the roof with ice building up on the eaves. Our telephone book is 28 pages big. There is no section for handyman or fix-it or help me.

For those of us living in "harsh" conditions (small town, BIG snow, no people, no husband) I was extremely lucky to see my neighbor and invite him to look at the problem with the garage door. He even joked about the need for a "rent-a-husband" in our village.

You are probably not as isolated as I am. You may even have somebody you can phone when things happen. Thank your lucky stars because you could be stuck in two feet of snow in the middle of podunk with no grocery store, with the nearest Wal Mart 28 miles to the east and Home Depot almost 42 miles north and it sure would be nice to actually be able to put a car in the garage when it is so cold outside. My most important thought now is - Thank God for Kind Neighbors.

Be thankful for the small things in life - they can become very important.

Joanne Robbins has published several articles on a variety of topics and has several websites. She is currently out shoveling snow.
